Good day ladies and gentleman,

Let's start a Recipe book for everyone to post their winning recipes in 308 Win/ 7.62 X 51

First and foremost, there are a few things that need to happen here for this post to be successful.

1: We need to stick to a pre-established format.
2: We only post recipes. No congratulations, questions or any other posts than recipes.
3: Questions or congrats to posters about certain recipes to be directed via PM so it doesn't clutter the original post with things other than recipes.

One very important thing, a recipe that works in a firearm may not work in yours. When the recipe is HOT (close or above recommended amount of powder), work your way up to it. . This is serious stuff. It can cause catastrophic failure of your firearm or hurt you or someone. We are mostly all grown ups, let's use our heads if the recipe is hot. WORK UP TO IT.

Here's a format that seems to make sens.

Caliber:
Rifle brand:
Rifle Model:
Custom built:
Barrel length and twist:
Projectile brand, model and weight:
Powder brand and weight:
LOAD CONSIDERED HOT OR CLOSE TO MAX:
Primers:
Coal:
Ogive length:
Brass:
Brass length:
Distance to lands:

Results at 100, 200, 300 (whatever is available)

If available:
Velocity (average):
Outside temperature:
Wind and direction:
Barometric pressure and other relevant data:

Thank you very much everyone and let's make this a successful post for everyone that are getting into reloading a new caliber or are lost in the amount of options available in this caliber. This will also be awesome for anyone who's looking for a start point or simply improve their own recipe or try something else. It will also tremendously simplify the search and the amount of time spent on the search button option and the read through the hundreds of posts and irrelevant reading someone will have to go through in order to get a start point!

We all know that something that does wonders in someone's rifle may not work in someone else's rifle even if it is the exact same thing only a few different serial number away.

Once again, thank you everyone for your participation in this recipe and let's make it a go to for anyone who needs it.

Rifle. Ruger gunsite scout 308.
41.5 grains of varget.
Hornady 180 grain interlock.
Winchester rifle primers
Federal brass
Coal 2.850
Trimmed to 2.01
.03 from lands
5 shot group =0.78 "

I’m presently doing load development with my fn fnar semi auto
20” barrel heavy barrel 1/12. twist
Winchester large rifle and cci# 34 primers
And varget powder
155 and 155.5 and 168 grain bullets
I will post more when I’m done ......work gets in the way so bare with me

Caliber: .308 Win
Projectile brand, model and weight: Sierra 175gr SMK
Powder brand and weight: Varget 43.4grs
LOAD CONSIDERED HOT OR CLOSE TO MAX: No. No pressure signs.
Primers: CCI BR2
Coal: 2.806", Lee factory crimp is used.
Ogive length: ?
Brass: Winchester
Brass length: New...haven't trimmed any yet. Most stuff is on its second or third load. I'm neck sizing only, not doing much else.
Distance to lands: 10 thou.

Results at 100, 200, 300 (whatever is available) All 5-round groups are under .5" at 100. Pretty much guaranteed. Best group ever was .28". Tight out to 650-700, then the wind starts taking over and it's all me vs. nature. The gun shoots twice as sharp as it practically needs to for matches, until the low-ish BC affects the long stuff. Load was developed simply by finding the lands then doing a ladder test. Not much involved.

If available:
Velocity (average): 2690fps on crony 10'away. Pretty consistent MV. Verified supersonic at 1000m by the guys in the butts in 20 degree weather.
Outside temperature: Call it late spring.
Barometric pressure and other relevant data: Standard, around 1000'msl.

Still beating head with the fnar ....so far I’ve tried lapua brass ....and I’ve tried others too 7.62 and commercial...
So if memory serves me right
Lapua brass....
cci #34 primers
Varget powder...41.4 grains
Berger bullets ...155.5 full bore
Velocity is at 2520 fps
And produced 7/8” at 100
Fnar in 7.62 x51 semi auto 20” barrel
I couldn’t get the velocity due to the short barrel...with out destroying the gun !,....it started to kick and jump and was not fun to shoot anymore ...I will be experimenting with faster powders ...due to shorter barrel and!,
Not damaging the gas system on the fn
More tests to follow
