Cadex's new Srike Nuke micro chassis - $750

I have that scope. It is excellent. Not sure why you need more then 14 for 1000 yards and in anyway.

Guys shoot 1,000 with irons too - doesn't mean I don't want a scope!

You are correct though, unless I am doing load development or slow prone work I don't go past 15-18X very often anymore.

So would you rather take this stock for the close money and weight?

That thing is awesome, never quite liked the look of the LSS but this definitely fits the bill. Thanks for the post.

I really like the new MDT ESS (so much so that it deserves another look!). It looks like they took a lot of input from shooters into its design. The interchangeable hand guards were a really good idea and I think there is a CF coming out in the future which is cool.

As the end of the day it is great to see so many Canadian companies making awesome products.

It looks to me like they bought a Cadex chassis system and worked off that premise while keeping the MDT lines of their previous products. Not bad but the Cadex is still a nicer product as reflected in the price.

The ESS is really meant to compete against the Cadex competition chassis not the strike nuke. I have buddies who really don't like Chassis system and prefer stocks like the Macmillian etc. That's who the strike nuke "micro chassis" system is for. Personally I like both systems but have taken to the pistol grip chassis style over the traditional tactical.

The target audience for the Nuke are shooters who are thinking of composite stocks like McMillan and Manners. Do the math on equal features and the nuke is dirt cheap.

Compare the weights and the nuke is right there AND can offer a partial alum skeleton which some consider a very good thing.

The Alum DBM is ahead of most.

I am patiently waiting for mine to show up so I can review but what I have seen is really promising.

And just a hint... if you are paying $750, you are likely paying too much.

X2.

If it weights practically the same and cost practically the same - it is a competitor.

Nuke is $750
MDT ESS is $900 ($150 difference)
Cheapest Cadex Competition is $1300 ($400 difference, its almost 50% more than MDT ESS)

I don't understand how one can say that ESS competes with Cadex Competition, but should not compete with Nuke. Just on a point of pistol grip?

What's not to understand? They are different styles. It's unlikely someone wanting a chassis system would go for a more traditional style like the strike nuke and that someone not liking chassis systems would go for the Cadex competition or MDT ESS system. Some prefer one style, some the other. Cadex is now covering both styles.

The Ess is interesting but given the choice I would rather have the Cadex chassis system. Then again I would go with the folder as it's an advantage with the chassis system. The non folding chassis systems don't interest me. If non folding, then the more traditional style has more appeal to me. Which I guess is where the nuke would fit in.

Give a Cadex dealer a shout... most sell under MSRP.

I am doing an intro sale now on the nuke and falcon bipod... I am sure others are too.

This is true, I've seen a lot of vendors sell Cadex products for less than MSRP. If they're saying $750 and vendors are bringing them in for less, that makes it all the more sweeter. Definitely going to grab one of these when they come out.

I wouldn't say Cadex was the first to market with tubular hand guards and pistol grips so saying MDT copied them is not really true.

It looks like it was heavily "inspired" from the Cadex to me. By the way, Cadex/Remington co own the patents for the chassis that showed up on the M24 sniper rifle as the XM2010 back in 2010. You might not agree but I definitely think it was the starting point/base for the designon the ESS. I don't see anything wrong with that.

The mag release looks nice on the MDT. As long as you can't bump it easily and drop the mag, then I think that was a nice addition.

You know that MDT had an application for that as well, right? Not that it really matters but figured I'd put that out there anyways...

That is a fairly interesting tidbit of info.

Does anyone know when the AI AX chassis came out? At the end of the day ARs have been rocking this set up for a long time. The Eliseo chassis are more or less the same as well and they are not a spring chicken either.

Personally I find the look more similar to that of an AI AX. It as that sloped portion in front of the magwell.

Check out my mad MS paint skills.

No I didn't. Any pictures of what that entry looked like?

For me if going to a chassis system it needs to have the folding option.
Also I highly recommend trying one out first at a store. I was set on the newest AI chassis. Got behind one in a store. I hated the pistol grip. It felt too short for my hand. It's not like I have gorilla hands either. It just didn't work for me. I really didn't find that chassis was comfortable for me when behind the trigger. YMMV, so worth trying before you buy.

I'll try and remember to get a picture of it this afternoon for ya. I agree on the folder option, otherwise a rifle with a 26" barrel is kinda unwieldy for transport purposes (ie it won't fit in my current drag bag, haha). It's my understanding that MDT is coming out with a folder for the ESS.

Ryan, yeah, I'd agree the ESS kinda looks like the AI, what's nice though, imo, is the exposed magwell so as to push that into a barricade instead of the mag.
