Nikon all the way!

Why can't Nikon offer different reticles??? Those circles drive me nuts.

I believe they do.

Well I couldn't resist and just picked up the above mentioned ProStaff 5 from Cabela's along with a set of the P series cantilever mounts for my newly acquired Troy PAR .308. Should work well!

The circle reticle has stopped me from buying Nikon scopes...why not just a simple MOA reticle????

Oh wait a minute! Looky at the new Nikon Black X 1000...I see a Nikon in my future.:)

Would like to hear what you think about it once you try it out. Haven't had time to mount mine yet. The 2.5-10 is still on sale and in stock at Cabelas.

FYI....when I initially handled a 3-9x40mm scope at the store, I wasn't too keen on the circles on the 22lr BDC reticle, but after using it, it works quite well. Glad I took the risk and bought it.

Can you please please bring out a FFP version of the Black X1000. I love the glass in your high end scopes, I just can't do target scopes that aren't FFP. I know I am not the only one. Soo close to knocking it out of the park....
I think I will be taking a look at one of the new FFP hunting scopes for a varmint rifle this summer however.

The Nikon X1000 is now available in USA ( optic planet) the top of the like is 649$ USD if you ad 30% you are probably close to Canadian market price , a winner for sure sadly no review !

Took it out for a bit today...honestly not super impressed. Gets pretty bad edge distortion at 10x and has a very narrow eye box. Very easy to get it to wink out if you move your head ever so slightly. I have I think 7 or 8 Elite 3200s that are 1.25-4 , 2-7, 3-9 and 5-15 and they are all better scopes to my eyes. Better glass, better eye box, and more constant eye relief. Same with my 3 Burris FF2 scopes. In fact my Legend Ultra HDs are better in all respects to my eyes. I'll give this ProStaff 5 a bit more time since I really like the SpotOn app even though the reticle is busy. I really want to like this scope, however I just wasn't blown away by it. Nice build quality though and easy to adjust turrets. Don't like the plastic turret caps though. Very easy to cross thread.

Just looking at the neighbourhood in the daylight, I almost lose all field of view at 10x and it gets blurry, but that's nothing new for me with my high index glasses. It is clear up to 9 power and is decent glass for what I paid. I haven't seen the Bushnell Elite series so I don't have anything to compare it to. My buddy's PST 4-16 is superior but he paid 4X the money I paid for this one. It's definitely better for my eyes than my Bushnell Trophy XLT.

This is another stop-gap for me, use this one and once I save more money, I'll buy something else - up-level to this with better glass. I still think it's a great deal for $269 w/Free Shipping. Definitely good enough for a hunting rig.

I like Nikons - so I tried another one that has the little extra marks for ranging - though I didn't think that I would like the clutter of marks to look through. I bought it anyways and after using it in low light conditions, I decided that I was right in the first place. I zero at 200, so the extra ballistic compensating marks are a waste of clear view.

Most modern centrefires drop another 24" - 28" at 400 if zeroed at 200, so at 400 yards, the top of the thickened post can be used instead of the centre of the fine cross. Your mileage will vary with set power of magnification - but it is still good to check your mileage. This distance from post to crosshair can also be used to rangefind in a pinch.

Do you always shoot at absolute known distances??
