There has been talk among Canadian defence industry representatives about a project to acquire a new C21 multi-calibre sniper rifle.

Canadian Army spokeswoman Krysthle Poitras outlines the current situation about that to Defence Watch:

“Upon final departmental approval, there will be 229 Multi-Caliber Sniper Weapons (MCSW) delivered. The purpose of the weapon is to replace the current .338 LM C14 fleet with a weapon that can be switched from .338 LM to 7.62 mm when needed. The .338 LM will remain the caliber of choice for operations while the 7.62 mm will be used for specific scenarios and for training and on ranges that cannot accommodate the more powerful .338 LM. Canadian Army infantry units and combat schools will be the main users. The MCSW should go to the bidding phase in late 2017, but the exact dates for delivery or contract talks are not known at this time.”

We need a C9/ SAW replacement much more than a new .338.

the C9A2 is an appropriate life extension to the C9 platform.
look at the trouble the US is having replacing theirs, it looks like it wont happen as all the "MG" that are being put forth are closed bolt except one, and all are magazine fed.
wait till the US develops a plan to replace their spends all the money on R and D and piggy back if the platform performs well enough.

I'm thinking Cadex? They've been developing a multi-cal system and I think it's in production or going into production soon. As much as I like PGW as well, I don't think they've explored that route yet.

There was also plans to update the C15 with a chassis system according to the Ottawa Citizen, and I was also thinking Cadex maybe because they already have a chassis system for the McMillan Tac50/C15 but apparently that plan is on hold:

Defence company representatives were briefed last year on what the Canadian Army is calling the C-22, a new .50 calibre weapon. There is interest, they were told by Army officers, of purchasing 96 of these new weapons.

But hold on. That was last year. These days those plans are not proceeding.

Canadian Army spokeswoman Krysthle Poitras explains in an email to Defence Watch: “Presently, there are no plans to purchase the C-22; the Canadian Army’s only .50 caliber weapon is the C15. However, it is being updated to the C15A1 variant, which means we are replacing the original fiberglass stock with a modular aluminum chassis. An additional 25 C15A1 will be acquired from Colt Canada to bring the fleet from 71 to 96 systems. Canadian Army infantry units and combat schools will be the main users.”

That bit about Colt Canada supplying 25 C15A1s had me scratching my head a bit? I didn't know that Colt Canada manufactured any bolt guns or 50bmgs for that matter?

Cadex is making the Kraken Multi Caliber, supposed to be very innovative with quick barrel swaps. I'd rather see the contract go to a Canadian company than a foreign one (Never could understand why most of the US military arms are made in Europe like Belgium or Germany). Kraken does 260, 6.5 CM, 6.5x47, 308 win, 300 WM, 300 Norma Mag and 338 Lapua. roughly 7200 before taxes, bet the military would get a hell of a discount over civvies.

Can we just have quality boots ?

I love wearing whatever I want because of our procurement system that gives money to lowest bidders, but there is a lot of stuff to get before new sniper rifles...

Boots, modular vest, maybe new helmet while we are at it lol

If not triple

Lmao no kidding. I work in healthcare construction. the region I cover is in the US. The us hospital are oowned by a person or corporation. Etc. So someone actually needs to pay the bill. So it's bid very aggressive. The projects I work on down there are half if not a quarter of the price we spend up here. And there hospital look like 5 star hotels. While ours are a step up from a prison. Goverent treats it like monopoly money. Make sure you spend it all otherwise next year they will adjust budget. Spend it all and cry for more next year is the mentality.

The way our government bureaucrats do things, I bet this new "multi caliber" will cost about five times what two identical rifles in different calibers will.

Has any other country done this ?

Can you see our sniper in in battle saying "ooops they are too close now - hand me the other barrel"

There is already a new helmet design won by a British company. It is butt ugly ( literally like wearing a butt on the head ) but it is cheaper than the Revision's one.

Bruh, it's a Federal law in the US that all their small arms have to be made in the US. That's why HK, FN, Cz, and a LOT of others have plants in the US, and a piece of debate over the M27 IAR, which is made in the US, but relies on imported metal.
