Common issue with a lot of handguns. You learn to train around it.
 
Damn paddle would keep my middle finger raw after a couple hundred rounds on the P2000. I assume the SFP9 would be the same. I just gave up, went Glock19 and didn't look back.

You can't blame a pistol when clearly it's user error.

Some pistols (the PPQ is the same) have pretty big slide release levers, if you are used to shooting other guns like Glocks and even 1911's with the thumbs up high and forward it doesn't take much pressure on the large levers to render them ineffective at locking back the slide. Technically you are correct that this is caused by user error in that like a paddle release a large slide release lever may require re training of the shooter's normal grip.
 
I've seen many guys use two thumbs forward and touching the frame/slide. And then they complain about failures of some sort. Lol.

There are tons of videos and info about it on YouTube. Research like with all guns and then make your decision.

Two thumbs forward is pretty standard for sure.
Have you tried a PPQ or VP9?
 
Two thumbs high and forward will touch the SFP 9 slide release enough to prevent it from locking back for me......PPQ does not fail to lock back though on an empty mag. Just my experience though.

All you need is a slight correction of the right thumb over your left thumb. Problem solved. And your still maintaining a good grip of pistol. Like one of the guys said. You have to correct for different style pistols.
 
It's an HK! If you don't already have one then of course you need one. One of every available color, variant, barrel, length, and caliber.

Nah...forget it. There are way too many options that naturally work. Why would I bother changing something that works with my other guns.
