I have a Hornady Lock N Load progressive press with case feeder. It's a few years old now and I've made well over 10000 rounds on it. All pistol. Earlier in the winter the case feeder locked up which is unusual as normally the shell plate pops up off of the motor drive spindle when there is a case feed jam. I took the feeder apart and sure enough the gear drive was locked up. I opened up the gear box and found that here was a pinion and gear with teeth broken off. I can't fix this...

I called Hornady and explained my issue to a sale person and a Tech. Neither of them really seemed to get it to be fair. They talked about process and passed me on to each other. Frustrated I let it ride and then called again, reaching another Tech whose name is Tim. Tim got it. The Canadian border also threw a few wrenches at the solution. Tim accommodated me in every way possible allowing me to simply ship the motor and gear box which I had taken apart which saved me a lot of postage $$$. Later I had to prove that I had destroyed the hopper. Tim then sent me a brand new case feeder! He also asked me if there were other concerns and we put together a short list of press parts that I wanted as replacements and spares. No charge.

I am posting this to let you know that my after sales experience with Hornady was first class. Problems arise and that doesn't make a product bad, mechanical things break. How a company makes things work again is as important to us as the actual hard goods that we buy.

This is not intended to be a Fanboy posting, there are many great manufacturers out there. I just wanted to relay my great Hornady experience with you.

And thanks again to Tim and Hornady!:d

I've had great dealings with Hornady as well as Korth who are the distribution center in Okotoks for Hornady. The best guy I have dealt with from Hornady is Seth.

I have had great service from Hornady, Lee & RCBS.

Lyman however I found very difficult, a very nasty woman on their C/S phone. I no longer buy Lyman products.
That's unfortunate. I had the opposite situation. I had a collet break on the Lyman Inertia Bullet Puller after about 100 uses. No problems they just sent me a new one.

Perhaps I just got a bad C/S Rep.

Possibly, but they are also the "face, or first contact" of the company. You get someone having a bad day; shows that in any way to a customer, and you get "I'm never going to buy a Lyman product again".
The reply is not meant in a mean way just showing the reality of "like" situations.
I'm in the service industry, and there are days when I'm not real thrilled at being pleasant (wife said I can't answer the phone anymore). I've had grumpy sessions on the phone and it has come back to bite said derriere!
The times when I have dealt with Hornady they have been very helpful.....a tad slow but helpful.

It's true, the contact person is really important they can make or break a company's reputation. I started out RCBS and their product is top notch but they would not honour a rebate as I was missing a piece of paper, I had an itemized VISA bill but they wanted an invoice from the vendor. Fair enough, I came up short but the canned response and my sense of being shafted (yeah I didn't play by the rules) has lead me to never buy RCBS again. It doesn't take much to make or break loyal customers.

I called Hornady with a question about a ballistic coefficient. Guy on the phone was super helpful and even suggested some load recipes. Really impressed.

I bought a hornady case trimmer. After 100 trimmings on once fired 223 brass it was completely dull. Quick call to hornady and 2 new cutters arrived a week later. I had an issue with a Lee die once and they send me a new die and a free factory crimp die as they seen I bought the 3 die not 4 die set. I think that all reloading equipment companies offer the best warranties in the industry

Not a reloading component, but I had an issue with a RapidSafe and they sent me a brand new one. Buy Hornady whenever I can now.
