Good shoot out. My experience has been the same with the standard 210s. I'd be surprised if the Supertarget wasn't right there with the X models but can't say for certain at this point.
Good thing it didn't go through because I think you were misquoted. I bought an X5 in 2013 and the Level 1s were all selling at dealers between 2500-2800. Maybe the confusion was between the 220X6 and 226X6. I ordered an P220X6 in 2014 and was quoted $3600. At that time, the MSRP for the P226X6 was more than the P220X6, but the 226X6 was selling at dealers for between 3100 and 3300 (based on the last Gen 1 X6s I saw listed before the ban at Wanstalls and Reliable. Wanstalls sold a Gen 2 X6 Supermatch at around the same time for 4200). The tables above are super helpful for sure, but some of the MSRPs listed are from different times and there are a few errors (e.g. pricing on the 220X6 and 226X6 is reversed, trigger info on the entry and classic..).
Also, no one should get too fussed about the differences between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 level 1s. Attention to fitting and the triggers should be basically the same, and has been in my limited experience (but as mentioned by others i too have seen some QA/QC variability). It kind of boils down to - if you don't like the rail, get the Gen 1. If you want to mount an optic or do action shooting get the Gen 2 (the ergos on the Gen 2 were designed in response to comp shooters to allow for a higher hand hold/lower bore axis). For the average target shooter, both versions will be equally accurate in stock form i bet. Not being an action shooter, I can't speak to the advantages of the modern ergos of the Gen 2, but once the optic is mounted, it is no longer a fair fight in terms of how easily you can tap into the accuracy potential of the pistol. The trade off is a heavier more cumbersome package of course. Frankly I like them all.
