Is the ACR worth it?

Dlask needs to be on S setting for it to cycle properly, thats just the way it is, dont ask why it works, it just does.

no issue with upper and lower slop as you say

Because they did no R&D and just drilled the gas port to AR spec, on U it's way overgassed, if you switch to S it bleeds off more gas to compensate for the added backpressure of a suppressor.
The ACR piston system is more efficient than an AR gas system. I used the 16 inch factory ACR barrel in an AR upper and it needs the gas port opened up slightly for the rifle to cycle correctly.

I'm just starting to reload .223. Would an ACR reliably cycle lighter loads than an AR with a midlength or rifle gas system?

Yes. Gas only needs to travel like 3 inches on the acr. Where on an AR, it travels 11 inches on a mid/rifle lengh, plus hot gas loses volume as it cools down.

I had shot 75gr with 23.5 varget load and it cycle just as good as Ae223

I'm debating either a NR ACR or an ATRA Varminter, I want this for 3 gun as I don't enjoy shooting for groups.

I'm leaning more towards the ACR, thoughts on ACR vs Varminter?

Not sure if the mv are as picky with ammo as the mh but say they are not picky and they don't have limited mag choices like the mh the side charging handle is not nearly as nice as the acr.
I had the mh and much prefer the acr.
I didn't buy either for accuracy, very happy with my decision to sell the mh to get the acr. Shame because I really prefer 308.

have the ACR converted to Remington 30 AR

I have both, but only one range day on my MV. Honestly at first glance its quickest and smoothest shooting in my collection. Worked 100% with AE black box .223, G2 & G3 pmags, AA and ATRS mags. I will probably use it for 3 gun until my ACR is complete, then I will re-evaluate.

heres a question,
i'm thinking about buying an acr and I've seen converted non-restricted's on the ee..
the question is: when dlask or heron does there conversion is it permanent? like could you still swap on a different barrel if you wanted or has the system lost its modularity.

Everything is the same, just longer barrel for our regs. Going down to a barrel shorter than 18.5" would require you to re-register your firearm.

For my ACR I have a:
-18.5" 5.56 Herron barrel
-18.5" 7.62x39 Herron barrel
-11.5" 5.56 Nefarious Arms barrel

cool thanks,
Yea I should have been clear I recognize the legal implications, I was more curious if from a technical perspective if it was more like the factory barrel conversion kits or permanently modified and non reversible.

depends if you spend the money on all the gas system parts, then you retain the quick change ability without having to strip one barrel for parts to put on the other.

450 Bushmaster and Remington 30 AR assemblies. both calibers use the same mag and bolt, just swap the barrel and done.

I had a MH and didn't care for it. I sold it and never looked back!

Is anyone able to comment on the quality of the Questar conversion barrels? I haven't been able to find much in the way of details.

The barrel itself or a conversion done in house? The company that did my conversions said he has had them sent to him because of issues.
