Do you already reload your own? If not then I can sure see the cost issue. But if you do reload you're already down to something like 50 or 60 cents a round. I don't think you can reload a shotgun slug for that cheap unless you're recycling range lead and casting your own slugs. And if you're doing that you can cast easily twice as many bullets for the 45-70 as you can slugs from a pound of lead.
Also if you shoot for accuracy then I'd think that the BFR that actually has rifling would do better than a slug from a smooth bore.
Watching that video made my hand hurt in sympathy. Any time someone feels the need to shake their hand like that and the hand hurts for some hours after firing a shot or two it means that some small bone damage was done. That stuff adds up over time. So while it would be fun with loads tailored to NOT make the shooter question their sanity I can't see the fun in otherwise causing long term injury.
On top of it all he said that they only made 5 of these things. So if you want one you'll have to be patient and wait for one of the current owners to decide to part with it or for their estate executors to offer it up for sale. And neither option is a big supply chain.....

Load the 45-70 hotter?
S&W 500 with some of the 600gn cast bullets? Or perhaps get a custom mold for the 45-70 that drops "trash can" bullets that are blunt cylinders that max out the bullet weight but won't stick out past the end of the cylinder?
The nerves and bones in your hand and wrist and I think you're crazy. But to each their own. I know another recoil junkie that shoots in my club and I won't touch off most of his stuff even on a bet. And I've single handed a S&W 460 with some stout loads and didn't mind it too much. But that was the limit that my hand would tolerate. I think you and he would get along just great....
It's also a relationship of the round and the gun too. One of the worst guns that I just won't shoot any more is a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454Casull with full power loads. I love them in .44Mag for some hard hitting giggles. But the .454 is sharper and stronger enough that it's literally a pain to shoot. A buddy has one and often offers it to me to shoot. But I've learned my lesson and I just thank him and pass on it.
The youtube video posted above says there is approximately 5 of them in existence, so they might not be as cheap as you think if you can even find one.
Do you know how these even came to be? You can't just cut down a barrel that short?
A gunsmith is not a manufacturer. So they cannot take a non-restricted and cut them down to a handgun like this one. That becomes a prohibited device. It's not just some paper work and 5 minutes with a saw.

Doesn't matter that it was restricted already. All that matters is that it's cut to less than 660.
Now if you could get a manufacturer to supply a 4.5 inch barrel....

Talk to your gunsmith. Let them know what you want to do. I have a feeling they won't be able to do what you'd like. (Not that any law restricting your needs for a fractured wrist make sense)
