ATT's what you need to know

Having just gotten my restricted after a 30 year break (was way easier back then) I can say that the laws will not vary from province to province (perhaps except Québécois) as they are federal laws. I do not know of any surplus requirements in the country imposes by provincial legislation. And they now don't issue long term ATTs but mine lasts 5 years. I don't know what long term was. And you can only get a temporary ATT for another province.

You're kidding right? Toronto police came to my house to interview (privately) my wife - inspected my storage - actually contacted my references and interviewed several neighbors. OK. that was more like 40 years ago - but easier?? Getting back in after nearly 40 years was all internet and documentation. I understand CFO overload, but it is stupid easy to get restricted these days. ATT for most of what we need is included - and out of province is easy squeezy!

Careful what you ask for. The good old days were not what some recall them to be.

Rob!

Alberta. How bad is it right now? Still have to go through a sh*tload of red tape and phone calls or have they finally relented to the pressure?

The registration paper. Am I allowed to cut out just the little firearm certificate that is in the cut lines and throw the rest of the paper away?

Rob, it was not like that for me. I bought a High Standard Victor at a shop in Vancouver went to police station, they issued a carry permit to take from shop to police (to inspect) and home all in the same day. I joined Capilano Rod and Gun Club and a week later I had a carry permit to go to any bonafide club in Canada. Wife never had a say in the matter. Registration was printed on dot matrix printer arrived a week or so later. For me it was way easier than now. Was the same rules for storage though as now.

I needed to fax in a copy of my proof of club membership - which they post and keep on your file.
Received an ATT which detailed that I can only transport to/from my gun club within a reasonable route.

Was made clear that if I wanted to transport it ANYwhere else but the gun club at which they have proof on membership on file, that I would need proof of where I was transporting it, and for what reason. So if I wanted to attend another gun club and or take it to a gun smith some where - I would have to obtain proof of membership or repair appointment, and would then have to reapply for another ATT.

Listen when I bought my restricted the seller had to obtain a temp ATT just to take it from his house to the post office to ship it.

Oddly I was not required to obtain a temp ATT to pick it up at the post office and transport it home..

I recently had a Tokarev transferred to me and I saw that the serial number did not match the registration. I believe the problem is that since the serial number had Cyrillic characters (Russian letters), perhaps it didn't translate to the RCMP's system? For example, instead of the Russian "Б", the registration has a latter "G"

Is this a critical issue where I have to call the RCMP to fix it or are they unable to enter this letter into their system?

I would look at a table like this:

And call the CFC to inform them of the necessary corrections.
At least your ass will be covered. It is your duty to correct any errors, and omissions. They bear no responsibility for errors, even if it's their fault. It's completely up to you, and if a mistake isn't corrected, you could lose more than that one gun.

That bears repeating.

Everyone should make a request under the Privacy Act for a copy of everything. That is the only way you'll learn of the errors (and there will be errors), and the only way you'll fix them.

My last one was like 600 pages or so

I've sent in a freedom of information request a few times and got zilch. Just curious as to where you sent yours into and what the description of the request was?

I would be interested in making sure all my info was correct as well.

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/atip-aiprp/index-eng.htm for info to include
https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/welcome.do?lang=en for that actual application

To get it all your info you want to say all records held by the RCMP firearms center in reagrds to h1ggin5

Is there an updated version for all of this?
I'm in SK and would like to purchase my first handgun soon, new from a shop.
I'm still unsure of range memberships and everything.
I'm not too worried about having to transfer the gun from home to a range yet but being able to pick it up from the post office.
