B&t apc 223 pic thread-range report page 4

This is a much better setup. The Cadex Handstop works better than the overpriced QD grip...lol... And ditched the plastic fantastic sights... Range trip this weekend :)

Unfortunately I can't get everything I need in time. I tried to borrow a buddies pistol but he got all scared I would scratch it...lol.. And it blew him away I would put 500 rounds thru it. Some people have guns and are scared to use them I guess.

So I will have to break my own rule and buy a freaking restricted again :-( that way ill be able to participate in cool events like this one.

I should be ready to go for the next course they put on. Ill be using my ACR since I have the most trigger time on it and its the lightest of the NR riffles I own

I like having the charging handle support side, too. It feels easier to manipulate. I thought it'd get in the way of a sling, but it's not that far forward, so it doesn't seem to be the case.

so i got to finally take mine to the range and run 145 rounds through her. it was interesting. im personally not a big fan of the trigger, i find the reset odd and hollow. the break is clean but the reset and slack leaves some to be desired, i find the swiss arms a lot better in this regard. also i was having a few light strikes, maybe 6 in total. maybe it was the ammo or it could be that the firing pin spring is still too stiff being new and all. this is the first time i ever tried this ammo, its AE223J like ive aways fired but the box is different and it was a dollar cheaper then the "black box" version so i thought id give it a try. next time i take it out ill use good old black box and see if the results are the same.

one of the light strikes

here are some fired cases for comparison.

now onto the thing thats annoying me and im looking for imput from those of you that have fired your APCs. have you noticed any odd wear on your cam track area of the bolt carrier. cleaning mine today after the range and it jumps out at me as a bit odd. heres some pics of what im on about

whats your input guys?

Did you clean and lube the rifle before range day? Just wondering if the wear was there already and you didn't see it. That is a lot of damage for 145 rds fired!

of course. yeah i inspected it when i received it, i didnt see anything like that. i dont think thats something a missing drop of oil will cause. could be that the finish was not properly adhered there and firing broke it loose maybe?

Most people will say " the gun's a tool, don't worry about scratching it!" But I agree with your concern. Something is not right, be it a design flaw, finishing or metallurgy issue. Wonder if other APC owners have the same issue...As Canada tail said, that looks like 1000s of rounds, not 145!

The light strikes concern me, please keep us posted on what you find out. Why don't you give Wolverine a call and maybe talk to their gunsmith?
I will go to my back field after work and blast a few boxes just to see.

im one of those guys too. i love the scratches and wear on my guns. but if somethings not right i want to know. i mean it is a bolt carrier, its going to take a beating. the concerning thing is that all this is happening in areas that make little to no contact with anything. like the top area where the piston hits is flaking all over the face of it, but only the center takes an impact. no piston gun, or any gun i have has wear like that.

1000+ through my Tav for example, my swiss has no wear worth even photographing.

Weird as I never had any light primer strikes and I was using PMC xtac ammo
Try some different ammo

thats what i mentioned as well, next time out im taking m193, m855, black box AE and maybe a couple other veriaties. 6 light strikes out of 150 may be hard to reproduce however. also apart from the finish issues this could all be indicative of normal break in. ill start drawing conclusions at the 500-1000 round mark.

lastly this is for B&T... Put a loop on this part! its was a PITA to remove even with only 150 rounds of carbon fouling.

mainly because it only appears to be cosmetic and solely isolated to the bolt carrier. maybe ill pm them linking this thread but unless its going to affect safety or function ill keep testing. the light strikes are more of an issue to me, once i try ammo that i know to be reliable then ill bring the issue to them. like i said this is my first time with this specific ammo and coupled with being a brand new rifle it could have just exacerbated the issue. if it keeps happening then maybe B&T should up the hammer spring weight or lower the firing spring weight... and send me one.
