870 receiver prices?

sure, minus the flex-tab mod & 3" mod on a WM.... which evens it out.

I've had the work done awhile ago and only have a rough idea at this point, not the exact numbers. Like I said, if one really want's to know go to the source.

I'm not arguing for the Express receiver, given the choice I'd buy the WM receiver every time. Picking up another WM tomorrow actually. I'm just not denying the fact an Express can be made into a very good 870 and in the end costs are not far off from each other.

Not even close to making it even. Seriously since it seems you are all about the money why not learn to do these mods yourself as most of us do. That will save some serious bucks
Cheers

It cost about $12, and takes about 20 minutes to modify a 2 3/4" receiver to handle 3" shotshells, without replacing a single rivet or needing to refinish the receiver...if you know what you're doing! As far as the flexi-tab is concerned it was introduced to fix a problem that was created from nothing other than a lack of competence, training, and firearms knowledge in new recruits entering the Law Enforcement community in the early 80's. By 1986 Remington simply decided to manufacture all 870s to include the new bolt, slide plate, and carrier (shell lifter) design they had been providing to complaining Law Enforcement agencies for a few years prior.

Exactly and to add I have seen more vintage wingmasters already fitted for 3" even though they were sold as 2 3/4" guns which is why I always say check it before one does anything. All I wish is remington had of kept records at what serial number they started this 3" as factory standard
I have never in all my years using these needed a flex tab including using them for skeet for many years

all about the money ? Hardly.

The OP asked about 870 receiver prices getting higher. I agree some are pushing them higher than they should be. I've seen some as high as an entire gun, I've seen some for really reasonable prices. I simply agree with the OP's observation that some are pushing it.

As for saving money by doing some mods yourself, of course that's a consideration. Why are you assuming I don't do or know these mods? I'm looking at costs for the average guy to get the work done for him. Buy a good older WM and get the work done to update it .... or get an Express and get the work done to update it. You essentially end up in the same place.

As for saving money DYI .. well, that could go either way so your argument is a wash. A guy could do his own polishing and his own cerakote to an express let alone the 3" mod to a WM.

I'm not sure what you're worked up about, I'd choose a good old WM over an newer Express and have said so many times.

"there's a sucker born every minute ... AND I SHOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIM"........ WOW!! <eye roll>

Maybe you're a visual learner, because you don't seem to be able to glean anything from the written word and understand it.

Signing off.

In the end are we not essentially just saying the same thing ?? Only one has a shiny coat on it..

I don't get worked up over wingmasters been collecting them since 1965 so don't need any in any gauge. That being said I did buy a new 28ga and 16ga when they came out with the choke tubes and a new 3 1/2 when they were introduced rest are all vintage and dying with me
You can have your modified express. I do have three express a 410, 28 and a 16 which seem to work just fine as supplied

Cheers
