How long does a S&W 629 last? Let's find out! 13K+ now

11085rds

200 21.5gr IMR 4227 and 100 23.5gr H-110 all in Starline brass with Campro 240gr TMJs. I might be getting this thing figured out as my groups are continuing to improve finally. Nothing obvious went wrong but haven't cleaned it yet.

School had a PD day in the middle of the week so why not go to the range. Pretty much had the place to myself too. 200rds of 21.5gr IMR4227 and 100 of 23.5gr H-110 all in 5 times Starline brass with S&B primers and Campro 240gr TMJs
I'm still flinching like crazy with the hotter loads but not all the time so some progress at least.

Thanks to my new class schedule, getting out shooting just got a lot easier. The downside being that as a student I don't have money anymore...:p Minor details.

Awesome time at the range, 300 more rounds without issues and got to let a fellow shooter have a go. All in all, a good time and getting much better grouping now.

Tried a hotter IMR4227 load at 22.5gr and there is definitely less unburned powder so that will be the new "mild" range load after present stocks are used up.

Noticing some flame erosion at the forcing cone, not much but visible. Will post some pics after cleaning.

I have a Model 29, former safe queen, bought through an estate and unfired, made in 1988 (29-4) with the firing pin on the hammer. Its 8 3/8" barrel and has wood hunter grips. I have no paperwork or its original box/manual. Would this be a performance version?

Supposedly no. The "endurance package" came out in response to numerous timing failures of early models.

Doesn't sound like it. The S&W Performance Center guns are usually very obviously modified for competition versions.

Yours sounds like a regular production gun although the longer barrel is kind of rare

Thanks. Wasn't sure. She's never been fired, yet.

Everybody is talking about the 629 taking 10,000+ rounds. What I want to know is what 10,000 rounds of 44mag do to his arm?

Other than a noticeable lump on my right thumb bone and some interesting calluses, not much. 300+ rounds per session does get tiring but it's also a heavy chunk of metal to hold.

All in all, a long range session feels like a pretty decent work out but I'm definitely adapted to it.

Cracked 12,000 today. 322 rounds consisting of 200 of the new light IMR load and 122 of various H-110 loads. All used Campro 240 TMJ's and S&B primers except for 22 with Remington 2-1/2's
Along with 200 rounds of 9mm and 100 of .40 S&W.

Nothing unusual and every now and then I managed to shoot some decent groups.

Made to the outdoor range a couple of weeks ago and tried to see if there was any difference between standard LP primers and the magnum ones. If there is, I can't tell, the cases look the same, the amount of unburned powder seems the same. But CCI350's are $17/1000 cheaper than Remington 2-1/2's, so I'll gladly use them.
274 rounds total and all of the Federal brass has now been fired at least 20 times. 50m gongs were a hoot and I even tried some 100m shots on the rifle range. Let's just say that my hit rate at 50m was a bit better, although I did manage to hit an 18"X18" target a few times...a very few times.
All told it was worth the trip even if it got so windy that rifle cases were being blown off the table.
