Barnes still makes 255gr bullets........Harold
This has been my source of Jacketed bullets. However, be careful....because:
Barnes makes no less than 3 different 255 grain bullets in almost the same diameter.
First is the 255 grain, .375" bullet designed for the 375 Winchester. It is a true .375" and has the crimping groove too far back to use in a 38-55 case.
If you try to load them, and crimp in the groove, the loaded cartridge will be too long to cycle through a M94 or Marlin 1893 action.
If you load them in the shorter 375 Winchester case, they will cycle when crimped in the groove.
Second is a 255 grain, .375" bullet with the crimping groove farther ahead on the bullet. This is also a true .375" bullet, and while it is the proper length
when loaded in 38-55 cases, it may be a bit small in diameter for some 38-55 rifles.
Third is a 255 grain, .377" bullet, with the crimping groove in the correct location for the 38-55 cases. This larger bullet will likely work best if you have a
38-55 with a groove diameter of .376" or larger. In some rare cases, the groove diameter is so generous that cast is the only solution.
