The 760/7600 Club

I collect pump rifles and have never seen any differences in the mag releases. They have always worked great.
An occasional worn mag catch is the only problem I've ever encountered.

Done...:D

I am now the proud owner of this rifle , I love it . Can't wait to take it out this fall .

338 Federal , it was originally posted on this thread in 2010 , post # 240 . It feeds reliably and loves Nosler 210 grain Partitions . A buddy bought it from Blargon a few years back . I called dibs if he ever sold it , he did , I won't be selling it .

But you're gonna smash a deer with it this fall right?

Updating you on my quest for a longer mag release.
I went to a store and got the Remington #0 and #3 in my hands thinking the difference would be more obvious than comparing #0 and #1. They look identical. Nobody could tell why they make from 0 to 4.
I'll get an extended mag release lever from Lucky13.

I noticed a dealer with a 760 Gamemaster for sale, and when I looked at the pictures, something seemed different with the receiver profile. I was thinking that maybe someone reprofiled the receiver for a receiver sight, but that looks like a pretty substantial amount of material removed. Has anyone seen something similarly done to a 760/7600? This wouldn't have been a factory change?

^^^^^ some of the very early models were profiled that way..... nothing aftermarket there....

That's very interesting! I did some more Googling and still haven't found any pictures of similarly-profiled receivers, although I have no doubt you're correct. Do you know what years (approx) would have had that shape? I looked for examples of first year Remington 760's (1952) and they have the corncob forearm, unlike this one, so it looks like the variant made have been for a short mid-life run?

ADDENDUM #1: I just found this picture, which has the same receiver profile:

Looking at the serial number, it appears to be B7814828, which would match up with ~ after 1978 per https://gun-data.com/remington_mod_model760.htm:
1978--New series of serial numbers started on 1-3-78 for 760's starting at B 7,400,000. New serial number range for 742's starting at B 6,000,000

Very cool --- I've been interested in 760/7600, and have owned a few over the years, but had never known that the receiver profile had changed.

ADDENDUM #2: When I searched for "Remington 760 humpback", I found a few more references, including some closeup pictures of a 742 receiver:

Owned both at one time or the other.
Just as fast as a semi and much more reliable compared to the 742 & 7400 we also owned.
Liked the BDLs with the fancy stock.

My nephew has one of our old 760s with the original colorado redfield scope it was bought off the rack with umpteen + a dozen or two years ago.
