I shot some 270sp and 300 gr dgx into a dirt mound from my 375 ruger(I know not the best real life media) but recovered bullets weighed just over 100gr. Core was gone only recovered the jacket. Shouldbe fine for black bears and elk/moose but I would be shooting the 250 or 270 gr tsx/ttsx at bigger tougher game.
 
not uncommon for professional hunters/guides to have ignorant views on cartridges. For the most part they're as uninformed as joe sixpack about bullet construction etc. 7mm's are wounders! The 270 is better. 308 will bounce off a moose, get a 30-06.
