CZ questions from a "CZ fan"

HOPEFULLY! lmao Nothing is an absolute in the world of rim fire!

To be honest, if you know its a current obsession ask yourself, will it pass? Do you need this rifle for a specific purpose ? The way I looked at it, this is an evolution of my shooting. I went from savage, to hey I can do better.. Up to CZ. Went from yah this gun is accurate to I want to see one hole on paper... So up to an annie. Guess what they all take game the same way. Only the annie has left me "satisfied". I know im in the top tier of class rifle, and it is now up to ME to shoot better not my gear.

Any rifle can collect game, not every rifle can punch holes equally.
Sadly this is a bit of a pay to play sport.

I wish I just got an anschutz to start and called it a day. (im sure we can sub in sako here where I say anschutz, but damn look at all the market support for anschutz)

Don't forget to pillar and bed the rifle. But before you do, throw out or sell the factory stock and get a better one, with less flex -- one that is more bench friendly, like a Boyds Pro Varmint or At-One stock. If you're going to go to all the trouble of getting a specially made custom Lilja barrel (which they may make at any time or only in production batches -- does anyone know yet?), there doesn't seem to be any sense to use the CZ factory stock as it has shortcomings that militate against its use with a custom barrel. Many RFC folks using the custom Lilja barrel are replacing factory stocks.

Then you'll be guaranteed to be smoking something, if not the Anschutz rifle that can arrive within a week or so, then some dope to distract you from the cost, wait, and apprehension about whether you can ever get your money back should you decide to sell in order to upgrade to an Anschutz 54 (or assuage the missus).:d

The great thing about Anschutz is not only the support available, but the wide variety of models from which to choose. Sako doesn't have the easy to access support nor the variety of models from which to choose. The Quad Varmint is hard to find in Canada, isn't it?

Annie 54's are pretty special. Barrel and trigger are to blame. They pay a lot of attention to lock time and choke. A lead projectile acts more like fluid than a solid so what happens at the exit is more critical than what happens at the start. Why you need a good stock of a cz to get ultimate accuracy out of it is to keep that forend flat and pointed at the target. The time from when you pull a trigger in a cz compared to an annual 54 is quite a difference. This all in the pursuit of pure accuracy. Annie just takes a lot of fiddling around out of the equation. Great rifles with great resale and a lot of fun to shoot. Still prefer the suhl 150.

^kind of sums it up for me. What's that old saying about kissing a few frogs.. lol Anyhow, I'm not claiming that any one rifle is better than any other...more that I feel like I've tried everything I've wanted to EXCEPT this 64. (everything in Canada that is) It may live up to my expectations, it may not...but it only needs to please me in the end. I'm living proof that super-tiny groups are not my top priority but it would fun knowing the rifle can pull it off when the mood strikes. Not 100% set on this TT, but almost. We'll see how I feel once I have the $ scraped together. Staying out the the EE would be a good start. lol
 
in the world of rimfire the rifle really isn't the end of the equation.....

I lot test a lot of ammo, both brands and lot numbers and keep an eye on both the temperature and humidity, what one rifle likes is not necessarily what another rifle likes. And action screw torque settings pretty much have to very depending on the ammo that you wish to shoot, we'll just leave it at that right now because we could go into the world of balance point and cantilever on the shooting bags but then we're going to take this conversation into a new world of shooting that most guys in this thread don't compete in.....what with all that I can take a rifle that doesn't shoot worth beans and make a shooter out of it, I can also take a rifle that shoots lights out and turn it into a shotgun so to speak

It takes longer to set up a rifle to shoot then most people are willing to invest.........

I have also discovered the fastener torque approach. I have recently purchased a torque driver that reads in 1/100 ft lbs if one desires. .500 ft lb(6 inch lbs) settings are simple to attain.The toy reads metric if you desire as well.Turns off automatically,magnetic,1/4" bits,has a buzzer digital readout a red led when torque setting is reached .05 to 5nm range.Great ergonomic handle. I have done some testing by running the screws dry to get a reading,witness mark the screw remove and lightly lube the screws and install back and go till I reach the original torque,rather amazing how far past the witness mark it goes to get the same torque.Bolt stretch and stock crush soon come into play.Just lube on the countersink of the screw and dry threads has a difference.You need one in your tuning arsenal.Pm me for info. :)

OMG I realized that I need better shooting bags or a bipod on my front end.

I plan on buying a lead sled to do my ammo testing to take out any error from myself.

This is my BEST group of the day today. (100 rounds down range) My setup does not allow me to do this with ease... I need way more stability.

Also brain fart, i subtracted .222 instead of .223 lol.

measure the diameter of a single hole in the target.....depending on paper it could range from .190 up to .217.......if it's bigger you might consider a new barrel

Who said it has to be a Lilja that is ordered? If going through djdilliodon, he often uses Benchmark or Shilen blanks, though one could send a blank from any maker of their choosing to him. Lilja still has in stock their current Bentz chambered drop-ins for the 455, but those really aren't worth anyone's time if you want the best accuracy possible. As with any barrel maker, you can order whatever you want at anytime (that's why they're called custom barrels) then you just have to wait a few months for them to fit it into their production schedule. After only shipping out the DJ group buy barrels last week, it is much too soon for Lilja to make a decision on switching their production design over, only one shooter has posted feedback and target results sofar.

No dope was smoked while waiting for my custom barrels (though beer drinking on the other hand.....) and never mind importing, getting a .270 barrel from our Canadian barrel maker JC Custom Barrels took nearly 7 months. Just got back from the range breaking her in, and I tell ya, 40 rounds of centerfire makes the shoulder feel funny.... time to whip up some handloads for it.

Thanks, I'll have to get some better paper for that. Brand new anschutz so I hope I wouldn't need a new barrel! lmfao

if it's anything like my new 1712 you'll find the holes are .190 or .191 in the paper.....sucks because it makes the groups bigger........LOL

I have 1710 and I would not go back to CZ. Plus its easier to deal with Germans then arrogant Czechs in regarding parts.

The Suhl 150 rifles were made by Merkel in Suhl in the former East Germany until 1992 (a few years after the wall came down). According to some sources, the Suhl action is based on the Anschutz 54.
