I want a Ruger American in .450 Bushmaster. WHERE???

Yeah,

Heck, my Scout has the same lines on the outside of the barrel...... when ya get bored you can play a nice little DJ sounding tune with your fingernail..... ;)

Jesus....so for $1200 Ruger still can't be bothered to finish a gun property.
And you still bought it because of it's "niche features" but lack of QC? Amazing.

Guess not.......Sure did.......Not really.

They're just guns. Buy, shoot, keep/sell, repeat.

Trying to stay my hand from buying a scout in this chambering. Can't justify it with a 454 casull lever in the safe.

Both of my scouts had fine fit and finish...... well above "American" levels, and both were deadly accurate....... that being said I recently set up an American for a new hunter, and it was a very capable setup in my eyes...... but I will second the zipper bolt...... but really?, you want smooth and flawless it will cost you..

The .223 got moved on because of the lack of 3 or 5 round mags.......

I recently purchased a Ruger American Ranch in .223 from CGN sponsor Grouse River. While looking I found out that Reliable Gun in Vancouver carried many different Ruger American rifles (unfortunately they do not seem to have one listed in 450 Bushmaster at present, but maybe they could order one in for you?).

Also while on the topic of the 450 Bushmaster cartridge; IIRC that particular round has become a favourite of Hog hunters in the US of A.

Cheers D

Just read about these and want one BAD. Any dealers in Canada stock them (and brass/dies/bullets)
They are like having a bolt action 450Marlin. Anyone have one?? Dealers feel free to chime in if you have one or can bring them in. I have another friend interested also!!!!

I've got one on order from Grouse River..when they come in no one knows..I've got the dies on order also Hornady and LEE both make them..and a AMP pilot#77 is also on its way...Ammo and casings seem to be the bigger challenge. If and when everything comes together I'll let you know

The one I linked to is in Canada already at irunguns...brass looks like an Issue, may have to roll your own from 284Win or one of the 6.5/284 variants.

Heck!
Get a rifle custom chambered in 458x2inch American.
-And also get cheap brass for it, cutting down non reloaders discard of 7mm Rem Mag & 300 Win Mag, etc.
-Better selection of bullets. Some of them even premium quality!
-Exact same primers/powder/bullets as 45-70/450 M/458 SOCOM.(sort of)

win win win

But doesnt the 454 casull use .452 bullets, which means there is already a wide selection of usable bullets? Or do those max out around 300gr?

Besides, if a 250gr only goes 2200fps, how slow would a 350 or 400 go?...

^That's why the 458x2inch American uses 458 diameter bullets, save that cast, just a touch bigger. And why it's not called the 452x2inch American.

Makes sense huh??

Honestly, No, it doesn't make any sense to me. Why would I want a custom caliber like that (needing custom barrel and dies, at the least), when the 450 does the same thing? Sure, you can get super-heavy .458 pills, but if the rifles are only spitting 250gr bullets at 2200fps then going heavier than 300gr is not going to have enough velocity to tickle my fancy anyways. But then again, I don't see the magic in a 500gr 45-70 load going 1600fps either, I'd rather spit a 350 at 2200fps or a 400 at 2000...

(After doing a bit of googling, I see the caliber you list is somewhat more powerful than the 450BM, as it seems capable of around 2000fps with a 400gr bullet, whereas the BM is more like 1500fps with a 400gr... That step up in performance would make me interested in it over a 450bm...)

Try to find .450 BM brass. Any belted mag brass can be easily turned into a .458x2". I had one in the making a few years ago. I had the donor rifle, dies, made brass, bullets, etc. The barrel was on order and paid for but the smith dropped the ball and I had to cancel my order.

For basically the cost of the barrel, I can buy a 450BM Ruger American. Unless the brass was unobtanium (which if Im not mistaken, can be made from 284win brass which is not super-common, but certainly available) then the availability of brass doesn't outweigh all the other negatives... Besides, I could build a custom 45-70 for the same price or cheaper, and have more power (or comparable power? I dunno really, I don't know much about the 458x2")

If building something unique just because its unique is your thing, then so be it. Personally, I don't see the point in going through all that effort and money, but to some people thats where the fun lies, and all the power to 'em.

There are canadian retailers that stock 450 bushmaster ammo, both the remington and Hornady. I have bought lots for my semi auto

There may be more bullet selection in a .458 diameter, but load them up to 450 bushmaster specs and you will see that not many of them perform like they should unless driven at higher velocity like the cartridges were intended to be used in.

Not an issue for punching paper or ringing steel, but I hunt

I have a .458 winmag rifle and two 45/70 rifles. I want a 450B.M. as it fills an imaginary hole in my arsenal. Please stop suggesting other calibers and custom rebarrelling. I like that it can use handgun bullets. I have thousands upon thousands of .452 bullets on my shelfs. Thanks to all those that didnt try to derail the thread.

I believe real guns.com did a test on that very rifle ..
Buy one , play with it and let us know how it shoots for you
