I recently got my hands of a very special Mauser Parabellum pistol, a Sport model in 9mm.
From a well known writer on the Mauser Parabellum, 87 Sport pistols were manufactured in both 7,65 Parabellum (.30 Luger) and 9mm from late '72 till early '77 initially because Mauser anticipated a change of gun laws that would allow sports pistols, but prohibit any kind of military style pistols. This law never materialized. Still, the Sport version was a custom ordered pistol for the German market made in extremely low quantity of less than 2 per month till it was discontinued in early 1977.
From various sources, less than 10 made it to North America with the majority in the US wearing the Simpson LTD. import marks under the front of the frame near the disassembly latch. To my knowledge, this is the only one in the country and is free of any import marks.
This particular one wears the "HH" date code, one of the very last of it's kind to be manufactured in 1977.
