Looking for a sub 2000$ quality scope. Need exposed turrets and reliability. Hoping to find a used nxs but need new options too. I already own a burris xtr 2 which I like, but would want to try something else. Scope would be used for hunting and shooting so it needs to have a lower mag of 3 to 5.

The shv f1 looks good quality for price but the max mag is a bit on the low side.

The vortex pst gen 2 looks great but I have never been sure about vortex. I don't care for their warranty. Sending a product back and forth suck. A guy on youtube had to send his back 2 days after receiving it. Although the same guy claims nightforce nxs turrets are mushy so.... anyhow the scope still looks like it has good feature for price.

Want FFP too

Any other options?

The new gen 2 PST are very nice for the price point. The downside is I have an order for my 5-25x FFP and it could be a week it could be 3 months there is no time table on them right now. Have my 1-6x PST SFP coming in a day or two though.

Best of luck with your desision.

Bushnell DMR IIi if you can find it. You mentioned "hunting and shooting" but all your suggested scopes are tactical and are not the best choice for hunting due to weight.

Bushnell Elite Tactical (pick the magnification and features you want) or LRHS (pick your magnification). Ticks off all your boxes and a lifetime warranty you'll probably never need.

25% rebate on right now to boot.

Vortex. nononono

I just got my 5-25 FFP last week after a few months of waiting, yours should be coming soon :)

Check the Hirsch Precision site for NF NXS pricing, before settling for something less.

Strange advice ... Where did you find NF NXS for less than 2K? BTW, NXS is a SFP, not FFP. And NF buys the glass for all NXS series from the Bushnell factory. IMHO, no need to pay 1K over for the old NXS model when you can just buy a great scope from the Elite Tactical line. I had/have both scopes.

im not interested in the older bushnells and not even in the DMR given they do not seem to be available anymore with the Bushnell promo running at the moment.

Best bang for the buck right now is the Leupold VX-5HD's or VX-3i LRP's which can come in Mil/Mil and FFP.

interesting, I havent considered Leupold because I have no experience with them and judged them as overpriced.

What can you tell about turret feel and overall quality/durability of the vx-5hd? Im a bit of a turret feel OCD, I want clean and big/hard clicks.

I would prefer the low profile turret of the 5hd over the vx-3

Do tell where you came upon this information... especially considering bushnell contracts their scope manufacturing to various scope makers in China, Philippines, Japan, etc..

It's not a secret. Ask any vendor/distributor who deals with scope manufacturers. I said specifically about DMR II glass and NXS. The glass is made at the same factory in Japan.

Haven't seen the new PST Gen II so can't comment on how that stacks up but I have long thought that the Bushnell Tactical DMR scopes represented excellent value - indeed check out Cal Zant's Precision Rifle Blog for his take - and have three of the HDMR's with the Temor2. The new DMRii - of which I have two - builds on that success with ZS and 10mil rev turrets and the glass is improved also. To my eyes the DMRii glass isn't as good as NF ATACR, Vortex Razor II HD, Kahles 624i or S+B Pmii - but really it is silly to compare them to scopes costing two to three times as much isn't it ? Having said that the new DMRii glass is every bit as good as the NF NXS which is really saying something.

So, my take - buy a new DMRii with G3 or if they are sold out then pick up the older model with Tremor 2 or G2.

The VX-5 has hands down the best tactile feel with the new ZL-2 dials, same as on the VX-6HD's. Two full rotations of elevation plus the zero lock. I find a lot of the other brands have "mushy" adjustments. Plus they are very low profile and you can have custom dials made to your specific load.

no, you didn't actually. "Same Bushnell factory".. bushnell has no glass factory. So both the upper end Bushnell tactical series and the NXS get their glass from the same Japanese vendor? If that is true, it means almost nothing as there's all sorts of grades of glass that can be sourced. Then there's the proper prescription given the design of the scope, the coatings of the glass, etc.

Yes, I did. NF uses Japanese glass, I believe Hoya. They all made in Japan not USA. Bushnell makes ET series in Japan as well.

On that I certainly agree. I was trying to say that there is no glass difference between NXS and DMR IIi. Considering the latter has FFP and costs twice less, I would say it's a better purchase that fit into $2K budget.
