Blackhawk Down Norinco

you have the incorrect scope mount for an authentic black hawk down repro..... now if you were going for that jack reacher movie repro.... yer on the right track hehehe
Love seeing this platform in movies and tv shows ;)

The CASM mount has a peep sight built into yes? I'd very much like know how people think it performs compared to the factor irons. Obviously you loose elevation and windage adjustments... If I were to ever scope my M305 that is the mount I think I'd use, but I'm iffy, since I have already invested in NM Front and Rear sights. Maybe a scout scope instead since I have M14.ca's SHG, but I have never used a scout scope so I don't know how I'll like it, 10" eye relief sounds awkward.

what about a scout with a forward mounted red dot

I like red dots on a lot of guns but M14's are not one of them. All the credit to those who can shoot it accuratly with one.

Define accurate of M14, The red dot is better for fast target acquisition especially for close up shooting. If you want to test how accurate your M14 style rifle is, then you will need a good scope, a good mount and rest to test her out, probably a good shooter too.

Have that setup already, don't love it. I have a bushnell trs-25 on the SHG. Cowitnesses with the irons, but I don't feel like it's much benefit, since I have to be looking through the rear sight to see the red dot. The aperture on the NM rear sight is so small that the addition of a red dot doesn't provide much gain in terms of target acquisition. If my cheek weld drifts even slightly I loose the red dot, so the only purpose it serves in this setup is to help in low-lighting.

Get an ARMS 18 and you can still use your irons...

I wanna say the ARMS 18 is lower than the CASM?

Yes . ARMS 18 mount is lower . I used a TRS -25 on an Ultimak front rail for a couple years and as mentioned it would co witness with the iron sights (Used it at Milcun out to 600 yards with Tactical Teacher :d ) but it had a small sight picture . I still use the TRS-25 with the Ultimak but on a different rifle / stock combo and with a riser now .

On almost every rifle that I've installed a CASM onto the built in rear peep has been "Minute of Man" out to 200y.

Now bear in mind, every single one I've installed has been onto a rifle I've tuned.... so all else being equal, the rifles were already trued. The scope rail(s) were all set up properly for an optic, some had optics mounted, some didn't, but once properly set the CASM works surprisingly well as a BUIS.
