So I picked up early this week a mint condition 1978 Citori grade 1 hunting O/U.

Wood and bluing are inpecable. Bore shines like a mirror. Extremely tight lockup.

I took it out clay shooting with a couple of buddies today and I have to say that this gun rocks. Shoulders and shoots so well and smooth. Now I understand why these command the price they usually do.

I've been shooting clays with a Remington 1100 and a cooey 84 for a while and they have been great learning guns. But the citori is in a league of its own.

The recoil is very well manageable. The feel in hand is incredible. And the action is so crisp. I'm just blown away.

The OU has MOD an de FULL fixed chokes. So it's great for my use and for when I want to impress the guys and go for double clays. Lol

I've been waiting for a long time to find a clean citori that will not leave a crater size hole in my Pocket. I've been patient, regularly checking the EE and a couple of online sites for the right deal. And this week me being patient paid off. I got the gun for what some might say I stole it. Haha. I can't believe my luck on that one.

Morale of the story is be patient and maybe, just maybe you'll hit the jackpot too.

On my first day shooting in, i averaged 9/10.

Hi salibas, that is a good looking O/U! I am looking at one locally as well, do you mind either PMing me or letting me know what you got it for? What is the barrel length on your model?

The one that I am looking at is a bit newer, 80's model I believe, and maybe in not quite as good shape as yours. It does have the Invector chokes which came later in the production run?

I have owned more than a dozen Citori shotguns, and for the price, they are well made. They are pretty much the starting point for reliable long term shotgun with good fit and finish, but they are hardly in a league of their own. Fixed M/F chokes definitely reduces the desirability of the gun, as most hunters prefer IC/M, or the option of changing chokes. Proper cared for, that gun will last most shooters a lifetime.

Sure.. removable chokes would've been better. But for clays, mod/full is what I need. I wouldn't take the gun in the bush anyway for hunting. Too heavy and way too pretty. Lol.

Hey Salibas, very nice shotgun. I have been haunting the EE and elsewhere for a 20 ga SxS 'Elsie' for quite a while. Picked one off the EE a few weeks ago and took her out for some clay shooting in the back forty with a buddy. She was everything I wanted. Did go way over budget but what a sweet little shotgun. Proper handling and your Citori will last you forever. Good score.

Context is everything, "I've been shooting clays with a Remington 1100 and a cooey 84 for a while and they have been great learning guns. But the citori is in a league of its own." Fairly obvious that was in comparison to the others named.

I have migrated to Italian guns ,but shot a Citori for many years, with great success, and little issues. The person that has one of my first Citoris, just installed new firing pins and springs after 90k rounds. Best of luck with your gun
