Glock Blocked: SIG P320 Remains New US Army Pistol As GAO Rejects Glock Claim

They're both good guns - I imagine in the end it came down to budget and SIGs figures looked better which could be a substantial difference when you're buying such a large quantity

Like what? Everyone and their dog now offers a Glock wannabe pistol, like the SIG 320 that "won" the contract.

The 320 is an ok pistol but it failed durability tests when the FBI was trialing pistols. For another Glock wannabe it still isn't on par. Selecting a pistol on price alone is plain stupid and it's what got SIG the contract.

Absolutely correct. As is often the case with gov contracts some hands were greased or careers advanced at the expense of honest trials.

True. Despite all the die-hard Glock fans protests, it's same-old same-old design is well over 30 years old.
Modular pistols have passed it by.
Glock is so used to having everything their own way for so long that they can't accept reality.
But hey, Henry Ford wanted to keep on making the 1908-introduced Model T in 1927 while other makers had moved on to V8 engines, stick shift transmissions, and hydraulic brakes.

Exactly.

You can't "progress" if all you make is one product. Kind of a one trick pony until someone else comes out with a new trick. Some folks are believers in the "if it ain't broke" mentality but if we kept to that routine, we'd still be living like cave men chucking spears. Just 'cause everyone else makes a striker fired pistol ought to be a wake up call to become innovative and come up with something the competition hasn't.

By your logic the 1911 crowd are plain retarded as their design is much older and hasn't changed at all. Honestly I think the 1911 is a grossly outdated design that offers very little when compared to striker fired polymer guns but I digress.

The Glock design is old, and it's one that every other manufacturer is trying to copy. If it's such a horrible design why are their so many wannabe copies? Glock pistols are 37 years old and do tell what a "modular" pistol offers in terms of performance or reliability gains over a Glock??

Hunting with spears and living in caves was a poor concept as our food source was often nomadic which forced mankind to be nomadic. Spears are slow very short range weapons so they needed to be improved upon. Your parallel is way off base. As for Glock pistols vs other poly strikers I ask you the same question as the others. What does another striker fired pistol do equal or better than a Glock, and if the Glock is such an outdated design/technology then why is everyone attempting to copy it???

I own Glocks. I have for a long time. I've shot just about all the polymer newcomers ( except the Remington RP9, which I hear is not worth shooting anyways). Some, like the PPQ, the P320 and most HKs are fantastic guns in their own right. Have any of them outperformed my Glock? No! Will I drop $700-$1000 on any of them because they might be "better" than my Glock? No.
If I was into collecting polymer guns, maybe. Otherwise, I would rather spend the money on ammo.

The two things I like about Glocks is that the Glock 19 is exceptionally size efficient for a 15 round pistol, and that compared to others it's easy to detail strip and more importantly, easier to obtain spare parts (compared to HK and Walther!!!!)

I find the HK and Walther to be a wee bit more accurate that the Glock...at least in my hands.

I miss TDC too, he was right in many ways but too rigid to accept that everyone is different and some may actually shoot better with Non Glock pistols.
The drama he created was amusing.

And I've said as much to Kidd X that he sounds like TDC!
TDC was opinionated but he did have some good points and I actually believed he was a good shot ( even though no one could prove otherwise!)
 
What I find funny about all the SIG love over the past few months is that the SIG is already outdated by the lower bore axis, included backstraps, full length grip serrations of the APX.
