rem m7 do not have a blind mag all r hindged floorplates ! :p. RJ

I own a 2003-2004 Featherweight in 300 WSM and it's deadly accurate!
$999.00 sounds like a good price.

I once tried to reload for a co-workers model 7, and I couldn't get it to group at all, with several different loads.

I have my rem model seven shooting moa in 7mm08, tolerable recoil and under 7 and a bit pounds with scope and ammo.

There is a barrel pressure "trick" that can be applied to Model Sevens if it does not group well...

Cannot remember details, but a little bit of fore end pressure has to be applied.

Love the Models 7's, near perfect bush gun for me, compact, light, fast and accurate.
Remember they are not a target rifle, after three or four consecutive shots groups open up slightly, pencil barrels heat quickly.
Great Hunting Gun..

Sometimes the culprit on the 70 FWT is too long a front swivel stud that is unseen+ pressing on the underside of the barrel.Easily shortened...........Harold

Thinking a lightweight rifle in 30/06 is going to recoil some. Might not be the best option. Does your $1000 limit include optics if required?
The price of the Featherweight you state is a good price. Might be able to "haggle" a bit if you buy a "package deal" (rifle, bases, optics, etc). Have you considered a 7mm/08. Good calibre and a lot less recoil than a 30/06.
Other options would include: HOWA, Weatherby S2, or used rifles.
As mentioned above it is a hunting rifle so if you consistently shoot 2" groups or less at 100yds you should be good for hunting deer sized game etc. If longer shots are needed then one may need to refine the accuracy of the rifle by either handloading or have a 'smith tune it a bit. Depends on how it shoots and the shooters abilities.

I have a 1980's production 243 that is exceptionally accurate (I did have to sand out the barrel channel a bit as there were a couple of pressure points that affected the shot strings as the barrel started to get warm). Use it to keep the groundhog population in check.

I have had a number of model 7's and 70 Featherweight's. Currently have a 7 in 260 rem that will be my 10 yr olds first deer rifle in 2 years. Also currently have a 70 Featherweight in 7mm Mauser that is one of my favourite carry rifles. Both shoot very well. The model 7 is only available in short action calibers, no 30-06. If it is for your wife I would very seriously consider a 7mm-08 or 260 Rem. They will do everything she will need it to do, with a significant reduction in recoil.

Thanks for info guy !
I reload so the load will be on the node
I already have scope and ring at home so 1k is for the rifle !

Either rifle is an excellent choice. I have a 700 mountain rifle in 280 which is an awesome hunting rifle. I also have a fwt in 308. I'd give the edge to the Winchester in the looks department. Otherwise they are equal in accuracy and handling/quality. Just comes down to personal preference. My fwt only goes hunting on fair weather days, while the 700mtn goes whenever where ever!!

My wife found a model 7 in 7 08 had too recoil for Her, She has and shoots an H & R 30 30, a Husqvarna 98 6.5x55, a Lady Vanguard in .243.

Excellent Price! ... grab that Win70 FWT in .308
Gorgeous walnut stock (she will LOVE it),
And at about 6.5 lbs, the recoil will be moderate.

But (if necessary) she can start with reduced recoil ammunition:
According to Remington, their Managed Recoil .308 ammo provides:
- 50% reduction in recoil (equivalent to that of a .243), with
-"bullet-optimized" hunting performance out to 200 yards.

I love my Howa and Vanguard rifles......BUT featherweight is one of the last adjectives I would use to describe them. Not too heavy in the regular Weatherby plain plastic stock though. Never seen a Howa/Vanguard with blind mag either.
