No matter how hard I try, I just don't like SxS or O/U shotguns. I find them "unwieldy" and where I hunt small game, the action is often fast and furious. I sometimes run into patches of a dozen ptarmigan, or 5-6 rabbits and 2 shots just doesn't fill my freezer. After 30 years of dabbling in every kind of shotgun, it is pumps for me now.

So, can someone articulate the draw of the SxS? I've owned only one - a very old Belgian with damascus barrels that I loaded up with black powder and home made shot (In win AA hulls. ). Would sometime take it out for a round of trap just for S&Giggles.

It was absolutely fun, but I think more for the loads and the ancient than the Action style.

Share. What calls to you about your SxS?

Rob!

When you walk more than you shoot, weight's a factor, aesthetics, balance, carry, weight in your hand, quick to point in thicker cover, livelyness in the hand, moment of inertia on the swing, choice of 2 chokes if you're that good, and find one that shoots where you look as soon as it touches your shoulder in the "move, mount, shoot" upland 2-step. And history and aesthetics. My current favourite is an East German Merkel with a left handed cheek piece and the stock dimensions just fit me, can do respectably with it's full and extra full chokes at skeet, it just fits me that well.

The Merkel is your favourite? It's probably your least expensive one! Hahaha. See what it does in NoDak and then make the call.

1 Belgium 20ga. The definition of a super grouse/woodcock gun.
1 Browning BSS 12 ga. 30 inch. The apitame of a SxS target gun.

I just purchased a Grulla 216RB in 16 gauge to go with my two AYA number 2 shotguns in 20 and 28 gauge. The Grulla fits me very well, and the price was just too good to turn down.
