P226 LDC or CZ Shadow 2

This thread is responsible for the Shadow 2 now being at the top of my wanted list for my first handgun once I have my RPAL :)

Consider yourself lucky, as a result of this thread I now have a Shadow 2 on its way and a real itch for a Legion SAO
 
Whats everyone using for holsters with the Shadow 2? I like the minimalist competition style

Has anyone tried the Double Alpha Racemaster? How does it secure the gun? Magnets? Or some kind of discreet locking mechanism?

I'm running the DAA Race Master magnetic. They having a simple flip lever locking mechanism that you can operate with your drawing hand while holstering and unholstering. The magnetic part is associated with the trigger guard retention block. It only assists in ensuring that the retention block is fully open after the gun is drawn. I've read that the non-magnetic ones had a habit of not fully opening if the pistol was drawn slowly and would cause a little inconvenience when you went to reholster. These are pretty sweet holsters and they are quick and smooth and on top of that, they impart very little wear on your pistol's finish unlike conventional holsters.

I picked mine up from Tenda, they had 'em in stock and better pricing over the other site sponsors.

The Alpha-X is the newer version that's simpler to adjust to your liking. They also go rid of the hip/thigh bracket that is on the Race Master.

I was going to go with a Ghost due to the price but after speaking to a couple Ghost + S2 owners, they suggested I spend the extra on the RM. They didn't say it was a bad holster but they mentioned that there was a little bit fo play when the S2 is holstered. The locking mechanism is not as simple as the RM and requires you to push and rotate the lockign lever to engage. Disengaging is a simple flick. Just takes a few mins of practice to get used to it.

I did play with one briefly when I was shopping around and it's a nice holster for the money but I figured, with a RM, I just need to buy a different trigger insert if I wanted to use a different pistol. Cheaper than buying multiple holsters and less work of not having to remove/replace the holster on my belt.

It will be one of these holsters for sure (I like the minimal style as it doesn't "wear" on the gun) and I`m leaning towards the Magnetic Race Master for the same reasons as you

I researched both extensively and was really torn as to which to get but I went for the S2 in the end

Theres no denying that the S1 is a heck of a lot of gun for the cash however

I don't own a S2, just saw one in the wild in USA today at an USPSA match. Feels WAAAAY heavier tho lol, really top heavy. I didn't really play with the slide but boy does it ever bite into your fingers which is awesome on the clock.

If I wasn't going back to school in July I'd have to pick up a S2 for production.

A couple guys in my BB course were shooting Shadows and were curious as to the benefits of the S2 over their Shadows and my instructor pointed out some of the enhancements.

- A slightly higher beavertail to get the bore axis as low as possible to control recoil.
- Heavier front end to reduce muzzle flip.
- An undercut trigger guard also helps get your hand higher on the grip.
- The rear tapered sights are angled similarly to an IPSC target to help speed up aiming.
- Extended mag release button to speed up mag changes and also help those with short thumbs from having to rotate the pistol in their hands to manipulate it.
- A Pre-B disco to shorten the trigger reset. It is noticeably shorter than the Shadow.
- A slighty straighter trigger over the Shadow to prevent finger pinching.
- A larger trigger guard to speed up getting your finger on the trigger, esp those with thumbs for index fingers.
- Full, aggressive checkering on the frontstrap and backstrap to prevent slippage.
- Aggressive aluminum grips.
- Both low profile and "tactical" safety levers in the box.
- Aggressive serrations on the front and rear of the slide to facilitate a positive/non-slip grip
- Tapered slide profile to speed up manipulating of the slide. How you may say? If you use the slingshot method to load/unload your pistol while holding your pistol sideways, the tapered angle fits the angle made by your thumb and index finger as you work the slide.
- No more firing pin block for smoother/better trigger feel.
- 1mm fiber optic front sight for more precise aiming over 1.5mm in the Shadow.

That's a lot of extra features for $350. more over a Shadow. But if you're only shooting static at the range, probably better off with a Shadow and buying ammo.
 
Thread revival

I just handled my new Shadow 2 - first impressions are:

Heavy! I was expecting a solid gun but this thing is beefy - should help with recoil I imagine

Its "tight" - all the tolerances are low with very little slop which should translate into more accuracy

DA trigger is lighter than I expected if a little long and the SA trigger is very nice

Anyone else have trouble releasing the slide with their right hand (I`m right handed)? I can just reach it (and I have big hands) and do it but its pretty tight

Overall its a pretty nice gun though and makes my P320 feel cheap and clunky

I've had that happen on mine a couple times when I did a hard mag insertion. Kinda surprised me. I've got about 3.5k rounds on it so far. I should order a replacement slide lock lever just in case.

I want it to happen every time. I actually wore down my replacement slide stop just so it would behave the same.

I have a competition one and a practice one, so I want them to be the same.
