My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

Ok guys. I will have an honourable mention section in the successful list for anyone who shoots all their groups under .250". All the same requirements for a successful attempt are the same.

Attempted this today and to be honest this was not the first time trying but things worked out better today due to better ammo. Rifle is a modded ruger 1022, my 22 built for the gopher patch. Started out life as a factory 1022 target. original barrel shot ok but was very very picky. upgraded to a GM 16.5 inch fluted. Much better accuracy across the board and the reduced weight and better balance made the rifle come alive in your hands. The trigger has been upgraded with a power custom hammer and sear and extra power hammer spring. the only thing I would change is a stock with more vertical in the grip but cant find one that fits my small hands. scope is a Nikon prostaff rimfire 3-9x40. I attempted this challenge before with sk match 40 gr high velocity hp. I got close but not good enough. That ammo will do 2 out of 3 groups in .5 or less and 3ed will be .6 or so. Excellent gopher ammo, never ever jams, very few fliers and they are slight fliers. Not the greatest small group ammo.

Today I tried federal champion standard velocity 40 gr solid on sale at cabelas for $3.50 a 50 box. No good. Groups averaged in the .65 range. Too many fliers.
Second up was eley sport. $9.99 per 50 box. It very shot well with no fliers. I did have some fte with this ammo and it hit a good bit lower than the federal.
Conditions were cloudy with the odd drizzle. Winds mild from my 5 oclock. Group 1 and especially 2 did not have nice defined holes due to damp paper from the off and on drizzle. I let it dry with the breeze and got better results. I did quick measurements at the bench and then remeasured once inside, thus the whiteout on the target. I subtracted .190 from outside measurement cause that's what my holes seemed to measure.

Nikon 3-9x40 prostaff rim fire. Yes she's all ruger except the barrel and trigger. I did have the headspace checked out when it was apart as some ruger bolts are all over the place. This one was good.

I give a lot of credit to the green mountain barrel. It shoots much better on average than the factory ruger heavy barrel. The ruger had it's favorite ammo that it shot well with but it was picky. This one shoots almost everything minute of gopher. One of the best 160 bucks I ever spent.

When I installed the barrel I broke it in exactly as per the green mountain instructions. I have never cleaned it since. I'm gonna guess it has 8000 to 10000 rounds through it. Mostly sk high velocity hp and Remington yellow jackets. I wipe all visible gunk out of the action and spray a light lube on the bottom of the bolt and top of the action and cycle the action a few times and call it good. It's been ultra reliable with about every ammo except the eley sport where I was getting some failure to eject. Sk 1050 fps ammo never gave me one malfunction, maybe it needs a wipe down and lube who knows. Sk ammo is also very greasy where as this eley is more waxy.

Could you add all the required info to your post. Thanks.

Good shooting I added you to the successful list.

After 6 attempts over the last 3 months, I have finally achieved success. Learned a lot about shooting from a rest on the way.

Rifle is a Savage Mark II TR. Glass is a Bushnell AR 3-12x40 with 20 MOA EGW rail.
Front 'rest' is a typical Harris Swivel Bipod. Rear 'rest' is a nylon sock filled with uncle bens long grain rice.
Ammo is Eley Target Yellow Box.

Groups were measured at the range outside to outside. Did the math at home.
Bullet hole in paper measured .204

Group Sizes (after deducting .204)
0.231 (smallest)
0.414
0.405
0.292
0.346

Average size is 0.3376

Good shooting Cameron. That's a good shooting TR .Has it been beded?

No actually. Right out of the box. Well i did take the action out when i first got it and torqued the screws properly, but that's it. Tried 4 different ammos before i found one that seemed to sync really well. Gunna try a reach out to 200m next week. I highly doubt it will still be holding 1/2 MOA, but it is gunna be fun to see.

2nd time out with my new to me Walther KKJ-T
Vortex HST 6-24x50 BKL rings shot off a reg rock rest leather rabbit ear bag
Shot at 51yds.AMMO was center X,
Rifle is very sensative to action screw torque and is capable of better as I had one group average of .3464 with a screw up
Back to the challenge
Group sizes are .460/.272/.398/.508/.358
Average group size .3972
Sorry guys it was pointed out o me my one group using .21 for bullet size is a .508.
Sometimes I use .22 thats where I got the .498.my bad math.I will submit another challenge group with better results.

Thanks rabid. I thought I had it the other day but it turns out I'm bad at math
I had to redeem myself this afternoon. These kkj-t, s are real shooters. With a few more tweaks. I should be able to get rid of the .4s
Will be good to see you post up some good results.
I'm really enjoying the challenge of sporter type rifle posting good results.
I have an old cil 180 on its way. That's my next project!

Good shooting, savagecanuck. Now that you've blazed the trail, so to speak, I'll have to try it with my new-to-me KKJ-T. Like you, I just got a 180 to try on this challenge as well as a less ubiquitous model.
