My M16A1 clone weighs about 7 lbs max with a 10 round mag on and a canvas Nam sling.
There is no way a beefed up AR10 design is going to weight the same as my M16A1 clone with a pencil barrel and dedicated iron upper sight (ie no optic)

That being said my stock USGI config Norc M305 weighs probably 10lbs plus EASILY and it's awesome. My favorite rifle in my small locker by far.
If there are people who shooting a 10 lb rifle offends their delicate skeletal structure I would strongly suggest a prescription for some concentrated Tryactin.....Tryactin like a f**king man!

The issue is not that people are unable to shoot or carry a heavy rifle. I simply don't want a heavy rifle for my uses

That's brutal man. Some people are unable to hump a 10lb rifle for other reasons. My neck, knees, and back are paying for a 32 year military career. So I suppose in your eye I'm not a f**king man either.

The point guys, is that most ar10 rifles are 8.5+ lbs dry, and the fact that people are complaining about the weight of a .308 semi auto ar style rifle is ridiculous. It's like buying an 80s pickup for 4x4 and then complaining that it is not fuel efficient. If you want a lightweight NR semi auto get the atrs modern Varminter, bushmaster acr, etc etc.

Keep in mind also, that if the design allows for it, and weight is a deal breaker, you can put a carbon wrapped or light profile barrel on it, lightweight handguard, etc to drop a bit of weight. For most people this gun will spend 90% of its time being shot on a bench at a range.

the 90% Only shooting from a bench already have restricteds for that. The people who want a NR, the primary use is going to be hunting guaranteed

This is not a price point rifle if one has to re barrel to get weight down, and then it is too early to tell how much weight will actually come of for the cost to tell if it is even worth doing

The number one reason I see for people not owning an AR or a precision AR10 is because they don't want the hassle of a restricted and all that goes with it. NEA has the right configuration. Making this into a hunting rifle is a cool project and I'm sure many will take one hunting if nothing else than it being a cool novelty. The bread and butter however is as a modern tactical precision rifle in non restricted.

Personally I would actually prefer a 20" and 24" model with a 1:11.25 twist. It wouldn't surprise me if in the future they offered a lighter hunting version along with longer barreled dedicated target style rifles. With the current offering being their jack of all trades "carbine" version.

Why do you think 90% of people buying a gun like this care about hunting?
I own more rifles than I could list off the top of my head but only one of them is my hunting rifle. I have a light barrel Remington 700 in 7-08. It's light, reliable, and accurate. Most of the other rifles are non restricted black rifles or tactical bolt action style and are for target, playing and varminting, I grew out of trying to hunt with heavy semi autos just because I could and using the excuse of the fast follow up shot. I haven't needed a second shot on anything but a gopher in years.

I am not going to comment on percentages I have no evidence of the numbers. However I think a lot pf people will be interested in this as a hunting rifle just for the novelty factor. Long term however I'll probably get sick and tired of carrying a brick around and will dust off the mountain ascent. Either way what I like is choice...to hunt with a NR black rifle or a bolt gun on a given day. Havent needed a follow up shot in years either. I think it will be a good option for bear hunting - always prefer a semi auto with bear its just personal preference when I'm out solo. YMMV.

Wow guys you are taking this the wrong way. I was simply trying to make the point that when these rifles are actually shot and used it will be mostly on the range. Hunting is a very small part of most people's firearm usage, including mine.

Can we get back to being excited about this awesome new rifle that is coming out in a couple of weeks? :)

That's why I killed a deer last year with my Tavor. I have lot's of different firearms, but I thought it would be fun or novelty as you call it. My bolt action hunting rifles are more suitable for most of the hunting I do, but the Tavor was fun. Other guys that dont' hunt in mountains or would choose a semi or pump anyway might not find the NEA cumbersome at all. When i get an NEA 102, I'll hunt with it in certain circumstances, again, just for fun. I've killed the majority of animals with scoped bolt actions, so it's not as if I think that I will get any advantage from a semi, it's just different. Some guys only want to use the same rifle grandpa used and passed down to their father and they now use, and that's fine too.

hunting and preparation for hunting is why I own majority of what I do. Many others on here look to NR options just for the reason.

If I wanted another range queen, I'd buy a light restricted 308

I agree. I wouldn't be on this pre order if I only hit the range. This rifle will be a camp gun, precision rifle, fun gun, and hunting rifle for my purposes. Others will perhaps have different purposes. I need a do it all rifle and this will be it for me. It covers all of my bases. I like to have the freedom to take my firearms where I want, and shoot them where I want. This is just the ticket!
