I don't agree. Would you want a gun used hard and abused by one person or a gun taken care of and owned by three? You are buying an object. Evaluate the object for what it is, not how many folks owned it before you did. New has it's charms for sure but new isn't always possible or desirable.

I've heard the same argument for cars, motorbikes, and wives. Perhaps your point of view would hold for "life partners"...
 
I have bought most of my guns from others here on the forum. Not once have I felt I did not got value for my money. Look at the sellers Trading Rating. Nobody builds a good reputation with the intent of watching it go down the drain. I have dealt with some multiple times. Good to know your word means something both as a buyer and as a seller.

Not really... Most major issues can be identified with a few good pictures.

Obviously if you're not sure about something, you shouldn't buy it. But I don't necessarily buy into your statement. I've personally sold items that I've never used, but I would have never sold them if I had any indication that they weren't in safe working order. Every sale needs to be looked at individually, and a general rule such as yours shouldn't be applied.
 
I've always buy,as a matter of fact,almost all i own,used. I prefer let the depreciation value to others...
But i can see what you mean by being worry or less in confidence if the seller have taking it in exchange. Dont know too much about it,didnt fired it,etc

Perhaps you could trade in your well used keyboard for a brand new one? One with all the keys perhaps? That'd be swell. ;-)
 
Never been afraid of buying used myself if the price is right. Got great deals because of someone else's impulse buys. Sometimes the gun doesn't work right because of some minor little thing that's easily rectified.
 
I avoid deals such as this:

- got it in a trade and have never shot it - can't guarantee correct functioning; or
- bore is dirty. Might clean up.
 
A good (re)seller will take it back if there is a problem. Many dealers will simply refer you to warranty depot = wait forever for a repair that may or may not be effective.
 
I've been disappointed in new guns more than I have with used ones of undocumented provenance.

And at least the used ones didn't cost me so much that it hurt to lose on them, selling them on. Selling a new disappointment is a bigger hit

But a Hi Power? What's to go wrong on them? And it's not like you can't get parts. Slap in a new recoil spring and go.
 
Last second owner pistol I bought, the first owner bubba'd the trigger controls with a dremel but the second owner who is a friend did not realize it.

It was only apparent when I took it to my gunsmith. We did resolve the problem at the end (by replacing the complete trigger group) but there's definitely a lot of fudds out there.

Could be for a quick profit or to suddenly free up some cash or maybe buyers remorse, there also seem to be a lot private sales stating " Never Fired and BNIB" in the EE.
 
I know where Caramel is coming from on this--I have no issue buying used (have a look at my Feedback Score :)) but I am also leery of buying a gun that the seller hasn't shot himself, unless it's truly NIB.
