It is very touchy to buy a handgun from a second owner...

Unless I personally know the seller (or the original owner) I'll pass the adds of guys wanting to "flip" firearms...
- Why would the seller take something in trade, that they are not interested in?... a quick profit?

Sometimes you'll have something obscire for sale and get a trade offer of equal value that you know will be easier to sell.

Sometimes things sound like a good idea on paper/the internet, but as soon as you get it into your hands it completely doesn't fit you or feel the way you want it to. Why bother going out and wasting a bunch of ammo getting used to or sighting in something that you belatedly realise isn't what you wanted it to be?

Not everyone is out to screw everyone else. That being said, there are scammers out there and people who pass things off as something they're not.

I've never had an issue buying or swapping second hand but I always look things over before finalizing a deal

If something doesn't seem right to you simply pass on it and move on. Not very difficult to figure out. That being said the only times I've had problems with a firearm I've bought was with new ones. Luckily the dealers either replaced with another new one or refunded my money. There is risk with anything you buy

This^

I often try something and find its not what I am after, or something I want more becomes available, so in an effort to get my money out of an item I am not scared to accept a trade towards it if I think the new item would be easier/quicker sell.

As an added bonus it lets me try something else out too while I check the item out to ensure it is what I think it is (condition and function wise) before listing.

Good point. I've only done trades for things that I wouldn't mind keeping but for those that I've sold I've always (I think--I've been here a long time!) tried them out first before selling.

I just got home from picking up a BNIB pistol at the post office. The gun came from a vendor. The gun is in stainless steel and is definitely new and unhandled by the dealer.

It appears S&W doesn't believe in applying a corrosion inhibitor to there guns as this one shows small pits and rust on the barrel. (And no it isn't antiseize or anything lol) I think I am going post it in the EE WTS now as BNIB.....

Just kidding, its a non issue to me and I will live with it. Would have been a different story if I had of spent a few thousand bucks on a new gun though, it would be going back.

That needs to go back on principle alone. I would never accept this on a new purchase. Manufactures need to be made aware of these quality control issues via the dealer or distributor.

I find one challenge buying used is some people don't seem to notice things like, out of spec light rails on pistols, canted sights, rust, damaged or missing parts etc.....

I bought a third hand pistol on the E.E. a while back and it turned out the OP was the first owner..... :)

It was a Railed Tactical SAM and when I got it I was surprised how badly machined the accessory rail on the frame was. It was visibly out of spec just eyeballing it and sure enough nothing fit correctly.

I must say Wolverine went above and beyond replacing the frame for me as a "third owner" but it goes to show that even though the gun passed through two gunnutz hands before it got to me..... Neither one noticed the issue?

Oh I almost forgot the other issue was that the right side of the ambi safety was bent as well, the way it was bent it must have been a factory issue as there was no marring of the finish despite the obvious distortion.

If I was in Carmel's tax bracket I'd probably buy more brand new guns and not sweat the premium.... but as other have posted some classics are only available used and they don't make them like they used too when it comes to hand made, classic blueing and nice wood.

Modern manufacturing has brought the price down and accuracy up for low budget guns but the soul is lacking..... :)

I remember that 1911, and when i sold it, i was never aware of the discrepency, the pistol was used in one range session and was flawless...
Sorry for your trouble, my experience was limited with handguns at the time, would i have knowned, i would have returned it to Wolverine...
PS i dont buy those handguns anymore... JP.

It's all good JP, the guy that sold it to me was a good guy and he missed it as well....
SAM is a bit hit and miss for sure but I sure was impressed with Wolverine and how John stepped up and took care of it!

Not even sure if your current 1911's would be comfortable slumming it with a SAM..... :)

Lol. Now I see why you aren't trusting of others.

Perhaps you could trade in your well used keyboard for a brand new one? One with all the keys perhaps? That'd be swell. ;-)

Well dude, if you've been here long enough you'd realise he lives in Quebec and English is probably not his first language, though it should have been. (Just kidding). Don't assume everyone on here was either born here or learned English as their native tongue. ;)

As for me, I only buy used on the EE here, and my two favorite guns are 130 years old and likely have killed people.

'Tis true. And there's a plethora of other Nutterz on here whose first language isn't English, which is evident from their sentence structure, etc. And I know from other threads that JP can write, and structure an English sentence quite well. But this... this is a masterpiece of ill-placed letters and words. Exceptional really. I mean, it took me less time to decipher Looky's posts and, well, that's saying something :p

I acquired quite a few used guns on the EE, did my homework and got fantastic deals, never had a bad experience
The problem is, when I deal with some of the "site sponsors", there are some real creepers lurking around.

Best buy used from the EE, if you must buy new get it from Wolverine or Prophet River, that's about it.

I stopped buying used a couple years ago. Not worth it to save a few bucks. This excludes firearms that can only be found used of course.
