So I've finally joined the dark side and upgraded to my RPAL and I'm looking to make my first purchase in the sub $600 range and I've found a retailer with surplus CZ 85's for sale. After doing some searching I've found zero threads about them anywhere on the internet and the retailer hasn't been in the CGN good books lately. Has anyone had any experiences with these?

Surplus rifles are kind of my thing so I figured a surplus pistol would be a great first step! I've considered some other options as well but shooting a CZ 75 is what finally made me decide to upgrade. Any thoughts or opinions before I dive in?

If you are talking about the CZ 85, the Czech Police Trade In pistol from the retailer whose name should not be spoken on this forum (M.....r), I've had one for some time. I bought a "very good" one for $549. Honestly, I'm very happy that I bought that pistol. For a long time I wanted to have the CZ 75/85 but didn't want to pay over $1,000 dollars for it. My pistol (see pic) has a bit of holster wear (not much, really) and some small dent at the front of the barrel but it shoots like a dream. Apparently, the Czech police didn't shoot too much because the rifling is excellent. Very accurate at 20-25 yards, perhaps even more accurate than my very modern, polymer Walther PPX. So far, I've shot Western Metal re-loads, PMC Bronze, Sellier&Bellot, Blazer Brass, Barnaul, FOC low-recoil and PPU without any hiccup whatsoever
The only negative is a very primitive method of magazine pinning by punching a dent in the magazine wall. Due to this I have a problem with one of the mags because the punched hole is made a bit too high and it's difficult to insert the last 10th cartridge into the mag. But it's a minor problem.
I recommend that particular pistol without any hesitation.

Trigger wholesalers are bringing in a crapton of surplus handguns and rifles, I have yet to see prices, there are lots of CZ, so I hope they beat the competitions prices!

So far, the best price I've seen for a "very good" CZ 85 Police Trade-In is $549 and for a "good" one $499. I paid $549 (+tax) for mine and I think it's quite a reasonable price taking into account the overall quality of the pistol.

I had a Cz85 of the first type back in the 1980's - good gun, reliable solidly built. One suggestion, slug your bore, some of the early versions had slightly oversized bores and shot better with bullets sized 357 than those sized 355. These appear to be later production (squared trigger guard) but it's worth checking.

If they bring in surplus Jericho's "frame safety, no rail" then I will be all over that!

Thanks for the question, I've been wondering about these and tried to find info on them as well. The best price I've found was from the dealer whose name dare not be spoken here lol.

That's good to hear, I found pictures from the USA for surplus CZ pistols and many of them were terribly pitted, so I was curious what constituted "excellent" condition. Holster wear isn't that big a deal in my opinion, but some of the pictures and YouTube videos of surplus CZ's in the USA were terrible and were obviously much worse than holster wear. Yours looks very nice for the price.
