NEA/BCL 102 FAQ Thread

Anyone know if these are able to feed from common magazines? Or would they require Gen 2 PMAGs or modification to the mag like the 'other' Canadian .308 modern sporting rifle on the market?

If I had a dollar for every time I read "is there a 223/556 version coming?" I would have enough to buy 2 of these.

That muzzle brake is hideous though, I'm not one to modify a firearm too much but that's gonna go day one.

How is it hideous? It looks pretty nice to me.

I think it looks pretty decent and I'm curious about the threads on the base of it. It was never officially mentioned as a feature but does it accept the NEA brake shield? I think it's definitely way better looking than the chunky one on the NEA 25 to my eye.

Yup it accepts the brake shield :) I can't find anywhere that sells it separately from the brake though....

Hopefully there is a plain muzzle cap that will fit the threads available. I am not a brake fan at all, and wouldn't want one on a 8# .308 rifle.

I doubt Ryan has had any time to speak to NEA about that given what they have on their plate right now with their new location they are setting up and handling the distribution of the 102 rifles. Not that running an online firearms business isn't hard enough :p

Then put a flash hider on it? You know brakes are not the only muzzle device right? But yeah one could get a 5/8x24 thread protector.

Well, I own about 15 rifles with flash hiders, so yes, I'm aware of the existence of various muzzle devices. For this rifle though, I don't think I want anything on the muzzle, so a cap would be the solution.

Yes I would be interested in the shield as well. Other than deflecting the noise what is the effect on recoil suppression with the shield on? I have no experience with the shields. Until this thread I actually was not aware of them

I've never used or seen a shield in person and it is kind of a strange looking device but all that said I understand its purpose. My last range visit the guy next to me had a keltec bullpup in 308 and a muzzle brake causing me to flinch from the gases that were being directed at me. This device essentially seems to keep the benefit of the brake but throws the sound and gas forward being more pleasant for yourself and those around you.

This video isn't a NEA model but should give you an idea of its purpose.

Yes it is but this isn't an ar

I also agree its not an AR and imagine that it does use a proprietary upper receiver which would have helped made it NR.

At this time I have no need for any rifle in .308, 95% of my shooting is at the range and that would be a costly round for making lots of holes in paper lol.

To be honest I hope that the actual barrel is proprietary as well because we all know there would be fools putting short barrels on these things, in turn screwing up the NR status for everyone !

All hold off till I see the range reports.

Agreed...Very interesting and Im cautiously optimistic that the reviews are favourable (and will await the IOP pricing in the fall)

...but then again, this is still NEA and I have the popcorn on standby for all the negative threads that may arise...

Yes it is but this isn't an ar

I put "AR" in quotes to convey that the 102 isn't technically an "AR", but it shares the modularity functionality of an AR.

It should be made clear if or when additional components will be available to take advantage of this function. Is that too much to ask?

Incase you haven't observed yet, nobody has one so its a tad premature to ask a lot of technical questions. Email NEA directly...
