Ontario Deer Tags

Anterless tags don't really excite me... we generally hunt for young bucks anyway... we just put in the draw in case a last day prop-head is needed to fill the freezer... it has been a few years since that has been the case.

64b is tough, I got my doe at 63b last year.
This year I got my doe tag for 58, I'm sure my luck will run out sooner or later.

I got mine for 56 but my buddy forgot the end date for the draw so we have one buck only tag. I figure we have a good chance of nailing something this season after 2 years being skunked.

Received my antlered tag last week. My friend got his antlerless tag for 46. I have not won the antlered lottery for 46 in over 6 years.

I better look again, didn't think I was drawn for antlerless in WMU49...So far noone out of 9 guys in our group got an antlerless tag. No moose tags either this year....season is going to suck

Be very careful reading your tags. Very easy to miss the small print.

How young? An antleress tag is required for spike bucks with spikes shorter than 3".

Too many people call the antlerless tag a "doe tag" when it's actually an "either ### with less than 3 inches of antler" tag. No such thing as a deer tag in Ontario.

40 years of deer hunting, I think I can figure out which deer are legal... by "young bucks" I am referring to 2 1/2 & 3 1/2 year old bucks... the best "size to taste" ratio... 6/8/small 10 point bucks (usually), and not older or declining bucks.

Technically, its an anterless validation on your deer license seal. The word "tag" isnt used.

It is even getting better. They have proposed regulation changes that will require you to carry your PAL with you also.

If you are hunting with a firearm, you're supposed to have it with you, and if you're hunting with a bow, no need for it. It's been that way since the days of the FAC. The only thing that's changed is that during the days of the LGR, you also have to have your reg certificate/card with you.
