IPSC Production - What are YOU using today?

Shadows all the way. in IPSC and USPSA the shadow 2's are exploding. I would say The tanfo or shadow would be the way to go.

So much of his training is mental. When you understand his training process, you wouldn't even consider saying anything to him when he's shooting. Wait until he's finished for the day. :)

Can't speak for all but i shot in Maximes squad at Ontario Provincials and I would have sworn he was running a CZ Shadow SP-01 out of his DIY bladetech hoslter (that almost got him promoted to Open). He finished 5th at Ontario Provincials, 6th at Nationals and 2nd at Summer Slam. And I can tell you it wasn't his gun or holster, it was his stage break downs, speed, accuracy and focus...especially through monsoon like rains at Ont Provicials.

And Last I heard Remi was shooting Grand Power. But that sounds like he has moved to Tanfoglia now?

I could be wrong, but we brought in Xtreme Brass Grips for Max and he put a nice picture of his Summers Slam trophy on facebook with his Tanfo Stock II next to it - so that's how I figured he's shooting Tanfo.

I can understand and respect that. When I'm practicing, I'm fitting it into my schedule and have limited time to maximize my practice. If I have only 2 hours on the range, the last thing I want to do is spend 10-25% of my time chit chatting.
from talking to Hwansik, he has a rigorous 5 day (on range) practice regimen that is in addition to dry firing and cross training that is over and above his regular classes as a full time student. He's very big on mental discipline. However, he has come from being a new pistol shooter to a top level shooter in 3 years so what he's doing definitely is working.

If that's the case then you're likely correct Sean. Recall examining his holster set up as the range officials gave him the third degree about his holster and mag positioning and thought his gun looked like a shadow. Then again they do look alike at a glance. Super nice guy, really helpful and a terrific shooter. Learned a lot watching him break the stages down and shoot that day.

Agreed! Max is a great guy and is definitely going to be a star in the IPSC Canada shooting circuit.
 
Hey, I'm no star, but I do shoot a Tanfo stock 3 extreme and really like it. Was shooting a g17 for a while, but just wasn't happy with it. Bought a Shadow to try the da/sa thing before laying out the coin for a Tanfo. Very happy with it.
 
I'm debating between a Q5 Match and Shadow 2.

I like the weight of the shadow and the looks of the q5.

From a couple dry fire "rounds", I couldn't notice a big difference with the trigger. Also not a big fan of the DA/SA
 
Glock 17, it's cost effective and reliable so I can just show up and shoot. The gun is definitely not holding me back when it does I'll try something more competitive.

I stopped using my Walther PPQ M2 5" for IPSC Production once the trigger pull slipped a hair under 5 lbs. Something you need to be conscious of when choosing a Production gun. With use the trigger pull will lighten up.

PPQ 5" is now my primary 3 Gun pistol. Like it for 3 Gun as it is a lot lighter than the Shadows, which makes a big difference on a fully loaded belt, and because it is striker fire it's simpler to reholster or discard in a dump box than the hammer guns.

So how does that really work? or how they measure it?

All the videos I've watched on the M2 5" or the Q5 Match, the trigger pull test it shows under 5 lbs. One of the videos is on a new out of the box pistol.

Thanks for the info. It will suck that once your hand and brain get to know the pistol really well, it becomes inelegible for the production division; specially when you get it for that specifically.

At certain level matches they test your trigger for production division using 5lbs of weights. They also check your gear and other aspects of your gun to make sure it complies with your division. If you can't make 5lbs you are moved to Open Division. They also test your ammunition power factor to ensure you make minor or major.

level 2 and above usually, or major matches in level 1. Unless someone suspects or says something that warrants testing, but normally for club matches never happens.
 
Buy a shadow 2 hands down, upgrading a stock 2 tanfoglio will be much more expensive. Also IPSC production heavily favours DA/SA guns as your subsequent trigger pulls can be under 5 pounds.
