First Glock!

When you say "the guns have twice the life" in what capacity do you mean that? Frames themselves?

Twice the life until terminal failure. Some reports indicate parts breakage on.40cal guns as high as 3-4 times as often as 9mm guns.

By "terminal failure" you mean frame failure? I can't think of anything else (particularly on a Glock) that isn't easily rectified.

Was my first restricted also. I love it! Have been thinking of swiping out the sights for night sights though. When I purchased it I was torn between the G17 and an M&P. I found the M&P to feel more ergonomically in my hands, but found the Glock of superior quality and accuracy for me.

Good purchase!
Think of what you want the gun for before switching out the sights. Night sights tend to be blockier due to the tritium insert ( even the new Trijicon ones). If you want rapid target acquisition in Speed Steel or IPSC, IDPA matches, a fiber optic sight is way better. Look at Dawson Precision or Warren Tactical sights.

I found that I liked the Glock NY1 spring with 3.5 lb connector setup. Heavier than stock but crisper with more positive reset.

Is that polymer specific, or do the stats hold that they beat up metal frames as badly? Out of curiosity how many rounds is the "life of a pistol"?

I couldn't tell you if that was material specific. The lifespan of the guns wasn't mentioned either(the article I read which I'm trying to locate) just that the life of the 9mm guns was averaging double or better that of the .40cal guns. I've personally seen a good handful of Glock 22's shear rails early in their life(under 20K) and I also know a guy with several gen 2 Glock 19's that have seen well into the 6 digit range without any failures..

I think all those 100K+ round Glocks you see on the web tend to be 9mm models and I do think the factory .40 ammo beats up the guns pretty good. There was a 200K round Glock 21 .45 on Glock Talk a week ago or so.

Finally took my 17 gen4 out, for the first time. Great experience, overall. Accurate rapidfire is surprisingly easy, considering the weight of the pistol. I'm happy that I bought it. Although I find the stock plastic sights adequate, I could see myself deciding to replace them in the future. Have some reading to do, regarding tritium night, vs fiber optic. Any owners with sight recommendations?

I just shot my new to me G19 gen 3 for the first time in an IDPA yesterday, very very happy with my results, very controllable and easy to get back on target, fits my hand perfectly, and just a pleasure to shoot! Ran it from my new Solely Canadian concealment holster, just pure awesome, so tight to my hip, no play in it and looks amazing, at least half a dozen guys were asking about the holster, lol. Loving my new setup :)

This one is interesting (from a forum sponsor armseast):

if Glock changes something about the bottom part on their retail stock models, I may even start liking their designs eventually :)

So how 2 years changes people (me) ... I just got my first Glock - 17 gen 4. And I can say I like it. This weekend will test it, but first impression is good. So ... never say never to Glock, as I did ;)
