Just somethin I been working on ~ Yes, I am still alive!!

This was a great thread to come across. As others have said, your skill and craftsmanship is something to envy. ITB
THANKS! :) been a bit since I posted - people were asking for more pics, but I think I may have 'spammed' it a bit.... :(

Not sure if I missed it or not, but, what was the thought behind the buttstock shape?
The overall design & shape was requested (will be a bench gun), and ~somewhat determined by the shape of the supplied butt plate. I do not think that was mentioned...

Love it Sean! I have a buddy that designs coins and the picture with that 2 inch perfectly sharp pencil really reminded me of his work bench. True artists. Awesome stuff.
Thanks - when the pencil isn't sharp enough I fall back on a striking knife :)

Looks like this today - just lots of oiling now ... probably the end of this thread I think! Unless I take some glamour shots :)

Stock design makes perfect sense now that I see it all together. I think the design will work well for the purpose, but man alive it would be ugly if it wasn't for that outstanding finish you're put on it!

Thanks - actually it does work, OPCX came by for a test fitting before the point of no return and gave the good ole - thumbs up :)

I had my reservations about the design as well - but it started coming together it grew on me - it sure as hell looks cool with the glass & bipod mounted though! :)

I got a Rice match .69 Jaeger swamped octagon carbine barrel, lock and large chunk of maple I been dying to get back to!

the ballard will have a lot of machining - both millling & athe work ... I gotta make the thimbles & wedges as well as cut a dovetail in the barrel.....

So where do you guys want this to go from here? I have 5 guns in the queue + 2 more for sure coming + my projects.....

Do you want to see separate threads or should I just keep spamming this one?

Maybe the Mods have something to say ;) ?

Also, I hope no one is taking this as a "THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE" ... this is simply "how I do it"

-lemme know!

I would keep posting here, just change the title to "Sean69 stock making thread"

Sorry Sean, but with your work, "this IS how it's done"

HEY long time no hear ~ thanks for the compliment, but I am still working a lot on trial and error..... not really anywhere you can go and 'learn' this stuff.... spending a lot of time in luthier forums working on my finishing techniques (did you know they use Tru-oil on guitars too??!)

drop by for a pint on the deck before the summer is over, if soon enough you can eyeball OPCSX's Ruger.... going for that multi-layer deep gloss.... :)
