Best Milsurp rifle for SHTF

Problem: Packs of hungry feral dogs, real possibility in the end days.Win 94 30-30. From what I've seen they handle neglect/abuse really well. Socially acceptable. All of your group can handle it. Not the only one I keep for such days, but great for packing to the outhouse, etc.

Steer clear of packs of feral bipeds is my other advice for today,unless you have beltfed toys:50cal:
 
In a shtf scenario alot of ppl will have sks I will pick my Lee enfield.. A sporter one.. Have lots of ammo and if confronted with someone with and sks at 200 yards have no worries.. There are way too many sks fan boys out there.. Don't get me wrong I own a couple.. It's a good gun but it's heavy and underpowered and mediocre accuracy ultimately I'd take an Ar but would still like a Lee less to go wrong and I personally can shoot my one 100 year old sporter out too 400 yards and hit a 12" gong with ease
 
And mosin nagant are a garbage rod... Just saying owned a few and just horrible all around.. But fan boys defend their 170 dollar gun
 
And phin11.. My 44 mag revolver will make a 3 foot fireball it's not an accomplishment just means your surplus ammo uses a powder that is too slow and a quarter of the powder is burning outside the barrel.. Normal in handgun.. Not good in rifle.. I could load a 30-30 winchester to do that.. But a fireball is not an advantage
 
Realistically I don't care about function, I care about spare parts, cleaning tools and ammo. If you cant/don't take care of a firearm who knows what could happen down the road. Can't necesarily prevent attacks but you can prevent majority of jamming/feeding issues.

Second thing is having to use it as a melee if the need arised. AR vs all steel/wood can make the deciding call for me

They can have their use in the situation. People who paint an entire platform with a broad stroke tell me they didn't practise enough or had a bad example of a Refurb.
 
The SKS is great. Lots of ammo. I dunno. I might defer to my Lee Enfield over my SKS's. You can get ammo at Canadian Tire for both, but I'd fall back on the reliability of a bolt over gas. I dunno. If I could only take one, I'd grab my Lee.

I've got a Browning '86 in 45-70. Not aware that it was ever a military rifle.

Although I have an excellent M1 Garand and three AR15s, if we are really talking SHTF ala the worst possible scenario, I'd still take the FN Mauser .30-'06 for the started reasons.
 
In mil-surp: AR3 - bolt 22 Hornet, takes down to fit into jacket pockets. RCAF issue for years, unfortunately a prohobited now. Second: P14. I'm more accurate with it than my SMLEs, and I have chamber adapters for 7.62x25mm. Third, Danish M1 in 308; has 2-7 scout scope on it. Sadly, only have 30 en-bloc clips.
 
A rifle sighted pump shotgun makes a lot of sense.
Easy to cast and reload for and a lot of versality with ammo.
Birdshot for small game, buck and slugs for defence and big game.
(A rifled choke tube makes a huge difference with slugs)
One could even get a set of inserts to fire common calibers
