Be rather sweet if that were to catch on right across Canada!!

"Spotlighting is the end of a practice of our people, and we will not use it and put people's lives in danger," Chartrand said. "People are sending the message loud and clear ... the mobility of using vehicles to night-hunt with a spotlight will come to an end."

A lady on the local reserve lost her lower leg while night hunting a few years back. The rifle was being pulled out of the truck and it went off hitting her leg. It isn't just those beyond the animal that can get shot.

i spent 95% of my 16 years of hunting back in the UK lamping or spotlighting as you say here without incident.
there was one really bad incident were a hunter did use night vision and plugged a badger spotter of a night.

lamping IMHO is a safe hunting practice for vermin control ie foxes and rabbits (or stray cats/dogs on sheep farms).
its the best method for rabbit control on sports fields, yes these are located with town boundaries and golf courses.

the only way its becomes unsafe, is the damn fools pulling the trigger and not knowing the lay of the land, backstops and intended quarry.

i wish it was completely legal here for vermin control

Doesn't matter what the MMF says. They also sell tags for metis to use on big game. The MMF doesn't make law, they can only encourage.

I think something similar has been in place in SK for a while already.

Somewhat similar alright. But it was not proposed by, nor supported by any FN organization.
Instead it was the government, who drew firm lines in the sand as to where "public safety" was and is an over-riding concern.
Enforceable, and is enforced.

While true, it is one hell of a step forward when compared to other FN groups literally screaming they have the right...

As previously noted, one can certainly hope this attitude grows!!

I was in Provincial Forest in Archery Elk in August. We heard 2 shots not very far from our tent @ 11 P.M. I found an Elk carcass next morning less that 1 km from our tent.

Next time I hear shots at night I am dialing 911 .....until RCMP shows up.

If they do not come I will be writing letters to M.Ps, MLAs, Ministers of Public Safety....etc.

Its time for common sense and put a stop to unsafe practice of discharging firearms at night.

I'll bet you a twenny that no-one shows up.

I'm not sure it's quite that simple. From https://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/news-and-media/1998/february/10/province-announces-new-night-hunting-regulations:

"This action was developed through consultation with First Nation and M‚tis people who indicated strong support for a restriction on night hunting with lights."

"During the consultations night hunting with spotlights received very little support from Aboriginal people; almost everyone recognized it as a safety concern, particularly in the southern part of the province. Many Elders and others also identified spiritual, ethical and conservation concerns with the practise."

We are dealing with a group that want the world for free, feel everything is owed to them for nothing. So some greedy cheif saying that natives aren't going to hunt in the evenings/nights is a crock of S**t. It's a part of their thinking plus they know we have a coward government so they will just go hunt whenever they want.

I love where i hunt its private farm land and I tell you those farmers don't take any BS from that group hence why they have very few issues:)

You can bet IF someone was out target shooting after dark that an ERT team would show ip in short order.

You can't get anyone to show up in Hudson bay when several vehicles are shining spot lights on clear cuts and not even making any effort to be sneaky about it. Many of them aren't even from Saskatchewan. They don't have the balls to touch anything with anything to do with Indian or Metis hunting, even when its up to commercial level poaching.
