milsurp alert!! - check this out!

There are only 50ish of these in Canada and from what I hear 500 released worldwide. They are the closest thing to an original 91/30 we're going to get. They are all "lightly" refurbished. Mine is all matching original parts and stock with all its cartouche's on it. The only refurb I can see is a light sanding of my bolt.
I think their price is justified. A lightly refurbished 91/30 without the attached bayonet would sell for some good coin. Add in the Semin bayonet and the low availability of this rifle and you have justified the price of these.

Who knows what these will cost in the future....

So, I have a Hungarian 43M, 1 of 2 I've ever seen (the other was missing the bolt), I don't think it's a $1000 rifle.

I agree. A 43M is not a $1000 rifle in Canada - what of it?

Part of something being collectible is that there are enough cheaper guns out there and enough "cache" that a collector community starts. As the common varieties are ticked off, those with means seek out the rarer and pricier variants. There is a collector community for Mosins - there isn't one, at least not in Canada, for rifles as obscure an un-inspiring as Hungarian 43M's.

I had no problem paying $900 for a Finnish Mosin M39!!
But a grand for a wartime Mosin with a welded on bayonet.... Nope

??

Nothing is welded on on the Semin trials version of the 91/30. If you think something is welded onto these guns, you have the wrong thing in mind.

What a beauty!
Look at the fine old world craftsmanship.
Outstanding.

Lol. It's beautiful to my eye the same way a late war phosphate k98k is beautiful, despite being crude.

Late war matching mausers bring among the highest prices. With these, it's no different.

So do you mean they are not beautiful firearms, finished and assembled by the most skilled old world craftsmen?

One of mine has old, worn paint in the SN, as I've seen on other Mosins. Wondering how many others may have one with paint as well?
Very odd. Any theories? The paint was clearly applied long ago.

So apparently there were some rifles with original bluing. That is something I was and still looking for.

Here's comparison of original bluing and re-blued version. Surface imperfections are very crisp under original bluing and smudged under re-bluing.
Another possible signs (not always observed) of original metal finish are distinctive paint in the serials of receiver and floor plate, non-blued trigger and internal surface of bayonet ring.
