school me on the T97

I blocked my mind off the T97 during the fiascos of the last several years.

I recently bought one bcos of the attractive price of $550.

my first bullpup and it came with rail in the handle, I like my rifle to be original looking.

I plan to use a red dot. I haven't had a chance to fire it bcos I was drawn in by the T81.

Fun plinker. But don't spend much on one and don't get sucked into the major upgraded ones. If you're looking at spending a lot on the upgraded versions or upgrading it yourself, then pick up a second hand Tavor instead. As an iron sight plinker I really enjoyed shooting mine. It's fun and I have kept it original as a plinker/collectible. Don't try and turn it into something it's not. Especially with the current price of second hand Tavors.

13xx - 14xx serial number is pure gen 1
15xx had an updated braided striker spring

T97.ca makes a Flat top upper with full length rail on top and slots on the side for a proprietary rail.

Gen 2 has a Chinese flat top upper which is lower profile than the T97.ca one. It has keymod on the sides of it. Gen 2 also has an improved feed ramp, ambi mag release and other small changes.

T97.ca makes a lower hand guard that replaces the plastic one with an aluminum one. Reduced trigger pull and weight slightly. Better safety. And options for non beavertail AR grips.

I was the guy to 1st report the dreaded touchdown hole. The originals ,1st gen had a drill mark opposite the gas port in the barrels, maybe not all of them.It went thru the chrome. It was an overdrill hole.Slight but there.I was worried that the bore would erode there.Dont know about gen 2 ect I never bought another one.Dave

That was part of the 13xx

I have a 13xx with none. And a 14xx with none.

I know 2 T97 owners, both have the T97.ca Flat top uppers on them..... both run great, they have no complaints except the mag release is annoying to reach, and the ejection sucks big time if your a lefty. I witnessed a lefty cut his lip bad while shooting one left handed.

I bought a Gen 2 one about 2 weeks ago.
I put about 200 rounds through it with no hiccups. A blast to shoot.
Well worth the money in my opinion.

Thanks to my T97, I'm getting better at shooting right handed! :D And my boys really like shooting with it. And all their friends too. Really, for the money, it's difficult to find a reason not to get one. Yes, there's a lot of plastic on it. And the first time you take it apart, you really wonder how the hell you'll put it back together. It's kind of crude, there are wobbly plastic parts, the trigger is, well... not the cleanest... but, you know what, that gun grows on you. Like an ugly pet dog I suppose.

Have shot thousands of rounds through my gen 1 with a variety of ammo. I use with a red dot and ring the 100 yard gong all day long (as do others I let use it). Is it as fun as my AR? Nope, but I can shoot it anywhere and it has been very reliable. If the price is below retail and you can try shooting, you should scoop it up.

If you could get one for $550, WHY WOULDN'T YOU?

Exactly.

I being an ex-weapons tech , we don't shy away from issues.

I recall I bought a cz858 for $450 when everybody were dumping them bcos of the gremlin. new were $650. Sound familiar?

newbies wouldn't know what I'm talking about, what's a gremlins?

Classic. I dumped mine cuz of that crap and bought a m305.

Mines awsome. I got one of the newer ones with the carry handle. Its pretty danm accurate for a semi auto. I never had a single jam. They handle nice and for me moumting a red dot on a carry handle was ideal. Perfect height. People that bash em prob never owned one.

I still prefer my CZ858 due to its simplicity and charm.

I prefer my AR15 over both, cause its close to a perfect all around rifle.. but its restricted...

I hated the M305.

Everyone is gunna have there own opinion, once you try it out youll love it or hate it.

T95 is perfect rifle if it has a flat rail. T97 is not. All the issues came with the conversion of 5.56.
T97 is still pretty good rifle.

If you are ok with find a matching magazine to avoid feeding problem.
If you are ok with un-ergonomic way to change magazine.
If you are ok with un-ergonomic way to turn on your safety.
If you are ok with red dot or iron sight, because regular scope will be stupid high.

The good:
extremely reliable when you find good matching magazine, Reliability is what PLA value most, and they replace T-81 with T97 ( t-81 is more reliable than AK family)
accurate as mil-spec AR.
NON-RESTRICTED!!!CHEAPEST 5.56 semi-auto rifle you can take into bush!
