Even the scallop for the bolt handle is nearly half an inch off. It had a stock repair that when touched crumbled and fell off as it looked like someone had been slashing the stock with a knife. At 99 dollars with no hardware at all and being advertised as military when it's a sporterozed k98 stock. Not a case of an illfitting stock

Shortened/repaired at the barrel end would not affect the action inletting, what kind of barreled action are you trying to install?
It's a laminated K98 stock originally.
 
A k98 1940. It was listed as an m98 military stock but since it was bubba'd it's now modified for something else entirely.its a poor job
 
Send it back for refund.

Or

Try some Plastic Wood or Bondo to "Fill In The Gaps", or use with confidence The ACME Brand Gun Stock Stretcher!
 
Just for your info, these shorter stocks aren't bubba jobs or sporterized. They were shortened by the Yugo's when they installed shorter barrels on some of the K98k's they refurbed.

It does sound odd though that the bolt cutout is off. Maybe there is more going on with your particular stock. Pics would help. nvmd. Saw the pics. You need a shortened handguard to allow your bands to fit.

I still would like to see pics of why the action doesn't fit. Why is the bolt cutout off?
 
It seems as though there is some misunderstanding as to interchange-ability and K98 / M98 / G98 actions. They sure all look the same; but they are not.
Just picked up a ( Likely ) sported K98 ( WW1 era) with the purpose being to swap choice parts onto another K98 of the same era. While they seem identical; there are differences, often ones that will not ' Drop right in ' as hoped.
Not a defense of Tradex or an attack on the OP; there were ( How many ?) millions of these rifles built in many variations, the parts are not always going to fit / work without modification and a healthy dose of luck.
Just my opinion of course.

It's a 1940 action. Sitting in a k98 stock the bolt sits right in that scallop perfectly. In this stock it sits nearly at the front edge of the cut out. The stock was very poorly repaired and shouldn't have been sent at all due to condition. It does not look like a factory job of cutting it off the cut is diagonal under the bayonet lug. The photo was of a k98 stock. I ordered an m98 military stock. I was sent a stock falling apart that was modified but I was willing to try to fix that. It was the incredibly rude service and the inability to admit they sent me a chopped up stock that got me going. The further unwillingness to pay the shipping for what should have not been sent. If I pay shipping again and "if he decides it's actually a m48 stock he MIGHT refund me" so if have paid 40 dollars for the wrong item being sent. Nowhere was it written they were modified in any way. This is pretty common of tradex I've had 6 people tell me they pulled similar things with items labled as good but were damaged and they would not take responsibility.

Warning about Tradex

I Recently purchased a stock ( you may have seen the original post where i was trying to figure out what it was actually for) When i received the stock it had a large repair that had de-laminated and was falling out. didn't look like a military job, i how ever had some sporter k98 wood that i was going to use as a patch rather than dealing with the return. when i finally had all the hardware i assembled this 1940 337 code k98 into what was sold as a military m98 stock (with a photo of a K98 stock) the stock did not fit. the scallop for the bolt knob is about a half inch too far back for a 98. when this rifle sits in a stock from a 41 k98 it fits perfect. the wood at the front was also sawed off and set back about 1/2 inch and (this can be seen by the cleaning rod nut being moved back and the original hole from k98 configuration)under the bayonet lug diagonally cut and set back making this a bubba modified stock and not "military" from what myself and friends would call it. at this point i contacted tradex only to received what was bar non the worst customer service i have ever gotten. i simply asked for them to pay shipping where the stock was clearly damaged when they sent it and now knowing it does not fit a k98 he was even more rude. going so far as to tell me even if i did return it and it was for another type of yugo mauser that he MIGHT refund me. and honestly sending it back would leave me paying 40 dollars shipping for absolutely nothing. its not an isolated incident either. both here and on my other pages 6 other people messaged me with similar storys. items sent to them that were damaged or broken but listed as good condition only to be met with rude service and a nest of excuses. to the point they basically call you a liar. so heads up.

They are sponsors just to gain access to the membership here, but not to exercise good customer service.
Without CGN they would go belly up within a week.

I am surprised the tradex fanboys didn't chime in yet (maybe they made bad experiences as well).

As with any online purchases you need to ask for detailed pictures, and if buying stock ask for measurements. Tradex guys, would go out there and take pictures, and send them to you. They usually pretty reasonable witth that. Yes sometimes the product may not meet expectation, but when you have pictures and how the item look like, then at least you have something to fall back on.
I dealt with them many times, in any case shipping is always on you. I find that they will ask for item back, and exchange it, but you send it there and they will send you the replacement. Which is not unreasonable in my opinion
 
Send the stock back, TRADEX has always been a good source for me..

Buying on the internet is always a gamble, but better than buying from the old magazine ads.

What you think you have, and what you think you are ordering, are not always what you would like them to be.

Eating the shipping costs is just a cost of business that allows you access to a larger market place.
 
stock ran 99 dollars. to return it again when it should have never been shipped will put shipping costs to 40 with a possible return (if he so decides) of 60 dollars. see above posts. no dealer is going to pull out stocks from a pile and start taking photos and measurements. the fact stands a broken bubba stock was shipped and sold when it should have been tossed in the trash from the condition. its one thing to be buyer beware buying from the EE but i shouldn't have to worry about a large dealer who listed stocks as good and military. the fact remains here and else ware that many others have received garbage from Tradex and every person said they will not refund you untill you kick up a giant stink and they will not admit error or having sent junk. why would i pay shipping twice on what i didn't order. even if it was still a military k98 the stock was clearly damaged when it left. the customer service would have been better at Mcdonalds.

I am not trying to invalidate your negative experience with this but:

I bought a pistol with mechanical defects. They replaced it with free shipping right away. The second pistol was defective and without hesitation they replaced it with a different model with free shipping. The customer service was outstanding. I've had a lot of laughs speaking with his wife when placing orders or phoning in a card and I've received lots of good deals from TradeEx. They have been absolutely the best dealer I've ever dealt with and I've purchased at least $10,000 in ammo from them.

I am quite surprised!

Do you mean leave feedback here on cgn if so I didn't . I called and emailed them and they would put me on hold for 5-20 minutes and either just not pickup or do nothing but try to put me off. Emails ended with him saying he will not argue with me even having seen the photos of the stock falling apart and cut up and modified. And saying that even if it wasn't the stock listed he still might not refund me. They're only good until they send you junk then your on your own.
