What is your go to optic for your black rifle?

ya i agree my prostaff has a bdc reticle
pretty useless but it hold zero nice and is good for 200+ for my 16 which is actually very accurate with good handloads

C79A2 on the C8A3
4x20 Colt on the XM177
TA33 on the 14.5 CQB rifle of mine
TA31 on the SA20
Vortex spitfire w doubler on the 12.5 spare CQB / client rifle for backup
Lots of options out there just need to find what works for you

MK18: Elcan Specter 1-4×
DD 16": Nightforce 2.5-10× with an offset Aimpoint H1

I still have an Eotech EXPS3-4 with G33 that I would love to use but can't decide which rifle to get.
Also have a Vortex PST 1-4× as a backup

I run an Elcan OS3X B on my 6920. I find it very practical as a kind of do anything, 500 yards and in scope. Not as nice as a dot for up close but a lot nicer once you're past 100. Nice glass and seems bombproof. I used to have an Eotech EXPS and a 3x magnifier, which was also a nice setup and better for 100 yards and in but all together, I prefer the Elcan. The B model doesn't have the BDC but has adjustable turrets instead which I prefer as the BDC won't necessarily line up with your dope. They can be found for a good deal at times, sub $1k.

It would be best for you to find a way to try a bunch of different optics before purchasing one. Everyone's eyes are different and some people with astigmatism have a very hard time with dot sights and have to use a low magnification optic with a reticle instead, none of us can tell you what will work for you, only what we like to use.
My best advice is to go look at as many as you can and try to get the store to let you take it outside to look through it under natural light and at objects more than 30 yards away. All scopes look good in a bright store full of flourescent lights at 30 yards but where you see what you're buying is outside in the real world.
Budget plays a huge part in everyone's decision but I've learned that the more you spend the happier you will be with what you buy, optics are an area where you typically do get what you pay for so spend as much as you can comfortably afford.

I have a Leupold HAMR on my XCR-l. I really like it and it's under 2k at Ellwood Epps. This includes the reflex sight on top. I found it was lighter than the Elcan and looks ###ier. I highly recommend one.

Irons on everything because they do not need batteries, fog, fail from water, recoil, or rough use.

Yes I know the highend stuff is tough, but when it comes to sights, only irons are what will be working after batteries die.

The following are what I have irons on:

1. Pistols
2. Bolt actions
3. Semi Auto rifles
4. Shorty 12 gauge

Nothing is a glass only gun, period.

My guns have Red Dots, compact and longer MilDot scopes, all have QD rings.

Ever hear of the term "etched reticle" ? Lol

Nothing wrong with irons.... Until the moment u wish u had zoom capabilitys.

You shouldn't be using pistols and semi auto rifles because they jam.

For the kind of shooting I like to do (short to medium range on-the-move), in order of preference:

1/ TA11 ACOG
2/ TA11 ACOG
3/ TA11 ACOG
4/ Elcan SpecterDR (though I think it's way too heavy)
5/ Elcan OS4
6/ Elcan OS3

I know you have some of my ta11s there, you should really try a ta33, lighter and the eye relief is even better than the ta11

I use a Mepro M5 RDS and I really like it though it does have it quirks.

It has a large, crystal clear untinted window and a relatively fine 1.8 MOA dot, all of which makes a big difference when trying to be more precise. It has an auto shut-off feature that activates the sight automatically when it detects movement, like if you pick the rifle up again. Battery life is about 7 months of constant on with your run-of-the-mill alkaline AA battery, which is pretty good! The reticle will tell you when you need to change batteries. When the battery starts to die, the reticle will blink a few times when you turn the sight on, or activate it via it's motion sensor. As the battery gets closer and closer to zero power over the course of a month or two, the reticle will start to blink when you shoot, more and more often, as a big red flag "change me now!" You get plenty of warning, it won't just not turn on one day.

The quirk is in the brightness knob - The knob turns from OFF - Brightest - Dimmer - Dimmer - NVG Compatibility mode. Generally speaking this is a good setup. However, it also means that the knob turned all the way up or all the way down means you don't see a dot - and if the knob snags on a piece of gear, it's going to turn all the way up or all the way down. If you're aware of it, it's not a big deal, but it took me by surprise the first time it happened to me!

I actually had the chance to try one a couple of years ago, and would like to pick up one or two at some point. I didn't put it in my list as I don't own one, but I suspect it would fit preference-wise between the TA11 and the Elcans on my list.
