I have a Norinco M305 with 18.5'' (a.k.a. shorty) barrel. It has a factory brake installed on it, but I want to change it out (this one loosens up after a number of rounds fired). I'm not sure if anyone on here has this rifle with this same brake on it, all I am finding on the internet are pictures of the M305 "shorty" with the original 22" barrel flash hider installed.

I'm not sure what the thread is on the barrel, but am looking around to see what is available. Does anyone here have any experience with after market muzzle brakes for the Norinco M305's? I am looking at a Matador Arms Hammerhead brake in particular, but am open to anything that looks good and works.

I haven't yet. I actually thought that the Loctite would burn off when the barrel gets hot - not that I get it smoking hot every time, but sometimes I do after firing off a few mags fast.

That's interesting. Did norinco stop spot welding their brakes onto the barrel?

The Norinco "SOCOM" uses a different flash hider compared to the other two barrel lengths, it wasn't spot-welded on like the longer ones.
It also didn't have a bayonet mount or front sight as part of the FH. It's also reversible.

It's hard to tell, but when the SOCOM FH is reversed so it backs on to the gas lock, it no longer actually works!
Cool looking, and shorter, but non-functional.

I shot a friends SOCOM with the muzzle device in both positions, couldn't really tell the difference. More of a flash hider than a brake.
My Krieger barreled M305 has the SEI Navy brake on it and it's like shooting a 223 :) http://www.smithenterprise.com/products07.html
My other M305 has been cut and re-threaded to 1/2x28.

Did someone say we needed a little #### in this thread? Yup :needPics:

Will the Smith Enterprises fit on a factory M305 barrel?

Based on thread pitch?

My rifle has a Krieger barrel.
States 5/8-20 thread for this one.

As far as I know the factory M305 is a metric thread which should be M15X.75 but according to the guys that work on them, due to the Norinco tolerances and inconsistencies it really could be almost any thread around that diameter. What I think most guys do is re-thread it to 1/2-28 and use bored out 22 brakes and muzzle devices, that is what was done to my other M305 that still has the factory barrel.

Thanx Cr5.

Need to replace the factory one on mine. Removed it during a seminar.

The best guys to ask would be Tactical Teacher or M14medic, there are a couple other guys on here that know these things inside/out (I'm not one of them), I'm surprised they haven't chimed in yet actually.
Have you gone through the sticky at the top of the page. There are lots of good threads with a lot of info on these rifles.

The Black Rose Tactical brake works and looks Awesome!...and is CDN to boot.

Loud as hell like any other brake but it is very effective at recoil reduction and muzzle rise.....and looks very menacing.
Great product from a CDN company
