The T97 Thread!

Awesome. This is the exact type of thing I am trying to avoid. Thank you. I thought that the Gen 2 was any T97 with the flat top. Revised to...

T97 Gen 2
T97.ca LHG
Vortex Razor

Anything else?

You may consider getting a T97 Gen2, which has a factory flat top and comes with a Norgon-style ambi magazine release, so you don't have to buy one and then modify it extensively. The Gen2 also has a number of other, smaller upgrades like feed ramps.

It seems most of the discussion here is on the Gen 1. I saw in another thread that T97.ca isn’t too happy with Norinco stealing their FTU and won’t look into if the LHG will fit on the Gen 2. Have you heard of the LHG fitting well? Does it seem as “necessary” for the Gen 2 as it was the Gen 1? Especially considering the trigger.

Also, I think it was you that put the stubby foregrip on your T97. What is that called and is there anything I need to know about mounting it?

Again, thank you for your help. My below average interneting skills and general lack of gun knowledge is making it difficult to find answers when trying to sort through the Gen 1 and Gen 2 stuff.

Sorry for clogging up this thread with my posts but I’m excited to get this rifle (I go pick it up in 6 days). So the new build...

T97 Gen 2
Vortex Razor - Ordered! (Got a nice discount at Optics Planet and with the Vortex warranty I couldn’t pass it up)
T97.ca LHG - Ordered!
Hogue Rubber Overmould with finger grips and battery storage.
Stubby Foregrip (Advice and recommendations required.)
Blue Force Gear Sling
Improved recoil pad? (I know T97.ca makes one but again I’m not sure of the compatibility or if there is even other options.)

Wasn't me, I use a Gen 1 with a red dot mounted on the Carry handle and no LHG. I think someone in one thread did mention fitting an LHG on a gen2 but don't quote me on that. It looks like it *should* fit.

The problem with the T97 trigger isn't that it's too long. The trigger is light and smooth and so I see the long pull as a bit of a safety feature. The trigger problem is that you can't tell when the trigger going to break, and I don't think the LHG fixes that. What the LHG *DOES* do is give you an AR-style safety by your thumb. Keep in mind that it's only a trigger block, only the original safety in the stock makes the rifle drop-safe. It also lets you swap out pistol grips, though at the expense of the cleaning kit stored in the pistol grip of the original.

The sling loops on the T97 are designed specifically for PLA slings and are very small. There's a guy on ebay who sells legit PLA T97 slings but they have metal hardware that is pretty loud. Blueforcegear Universal wire loops look like a good solution. From there you can use any two point sling you want.

The Israeli "seatbelt" slings have small enough hooks that they snap on no problem on their own.

Thanks for the help Jarvy. I made some edits to reflect your recommendations in the post above yours. I definitely got some of your posts confused with -raqh- ‘s posts in regards to the Gen 2. Sorry about that. Things get a bit blurry after 50 pages of reading. Also, I really like those Blueforcegear slings.

I run a gen2 with the LHG and zero problem on mine. ;) have that said I found the factory gen2 trigger pretty good. If you shot a M&P22 the trigger felt exactly like that. Mine measured at 5.5 lb on the wheeler trigger gauge. But felt completely diff from a 5.5lb AR trigger

Thank you for setting me straight on the Gen 2 and the LHG fit. If the trigger is decent, the mag release is proper and the factory front still accepts add ons (as raqh displayed here https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/976204-The-T97-Thread!/page125) why did you still decide to upgrade to the T97.ca LHG? Not questioning it, I just know that I missed some of the features aside from the AR safety.

Also, I believe that you added on the T97.ca recoil pad. Are you liking it as much as the Gen 1 people seem to?

I upgrade because I dont like the factory plastic lower and I want a hand stop at the bottom without drilling. Plus main reason is the added safety which makes things easy doing 2 or 3Gun. The LHG is not required but it looks a lot cooler ;P

I like the pad but unlike the real magpul pad they cut off the 2 insert so there is a chance the pad will come off on impact. Mine came off knocking against the rain barrel rim while dropping it in the rain barrel.

As for mag release, HiCal has an awesome mag release but need a little bit of fitting to install.

They definitely look way better. After looking at the stock Lower and Grip I think I’d prefer to the T97.ca lower just for the sake of being able to put an AR grip on it. Found a Hogue grip with storage I thought was pretty awesome. Does the design of the T97.ca allow for better/more attachments? It looks like it would but I know very little.

Is there an actual Magpul recoil pad or only the T97.ca for an aftermarket option?

I thought the Gen 2s had a new and good mag release?

They do, the HiCal were designed for the Gen1, and describing them as "awesome" is a matter of opinion. I applaud anyone who tries to fix the rifles shortcomings, but that particular bit looks pretty janky looking to me. T97.ca makes an enlarged button which is a big improvement but they want something like $60 for it, so I'll get by without. I'm still waiting on Yul Parts to make that Norgon Style release because I think they'll sell like hotcakes, because that's the only real solution.

NS refuses to import Gen2 Mag releases on their own because they're NS.

Is Yul Parts that video that you posted earlier in the thread? The person that is just looking for a manufacturer?

Answering my own question... yes it is the same guy from the YouTube you linked earlier.

LOL Of course 'awesome' is subject to personal opinion. To me, I can mag drop with my right hand thumb while still holding the grip and with my left hand already reaching for the mag makes it awesome to me ;) I don't have the mad skill like those soldiers in video that can flip out the mags 10 ft and change mag in 1 nano second. The HiCal one is quite a step up for me.

And again it is not required... but cool

Any “must haves” you can suggest? Do you have anything on the front? Perhaps a grip? Stubby or angle?

Wow. I hope M14 didn't waste money on a patent. Not surprised that Norinco stole the idea; copying is pretty much all that company does.

I think the other guys are right on this one. There is really no 'must have' and you can run the factory version just fine. I updated the LHG because it has the AR like safety, which does make dumping the rifle in those rain barrels much faster, and it is a full metal part. If you are interested you can pm me and I can send you pics of my setup.

If Glock ever release a full metal lower I will replace mine right away as well ;) LOL!! not gonna happen of course.

It feels wasteful to replace the lower if it works well. I guess it’s nice to have as a back up but it seems breaking the 97.ca LHG would be pretty sturdy. The replaceable grip is so nice and T97.ca’s better looks are just way to enticing for me not to get it though.

Opinions? Lower or upper effecting accuracy more?

The one potential issue that I see is how you choose to shoot. If you mount them on the upper, your rifle will sit a lot lower than your setup in your accuracy video. I guess, in theory, mounting them up high would allow the rifle to “hang” freely. Where as the on the lower it might cause something to press up into/against the barrel. But that likely isn’t an issue.
