The T97 Thread!

I installed the mag release from HiCal : http://hical.ca/norinco-type-97-t97-left-side-magazine-release/ I like it (besides a bit of retro fitting into the frame). I wish the handle is just slightly longer like 2cm more so I can even reach out with my trigger thumb. Very fast mag release IFF your mag drops free. I wish my LAR15 drops free like the one in the vid above ;)
Mine didn't drop free, I did the benchvise mod and they now all drop free. You take apart the mag and squeeze the mag spine gently with the vise. Take care not to do it too hard to pinch the metal or pop of the solderings.

I used a T97 with the FTU and LHG that had one of those, it worked flawlessly. You need a screwdriver to remove the lower, but if you're good with that, it's a great addition to the rifle. Rock solid, it freely rotates so your single point sling doesn't twist up.

I bought one of those when they were still prototypes. I don't use a single-point sling anymore but if you do, this mount is a must-have. The sling mount is very well built, and rotates freely so it wont unthread. There's not really a reason to take your lower off ever, so you're not losing anything. I recommend it!

Btw is it possible to remove the current brake, thread the barrel for AR type of brake? How much work and how much $$$ do you think would involve? I am not even sure there is a gun smith in GVRD who has time or will take the job =(

theres a few sections about that. Yes, you can knock off the muzzle brake (heard of difficulties tho) and get it threaded for a standard one. DLASK does it.. not sure on price tho...

Does anyone have exp using see thru mounts ? What do you recommend ?
Did anyone mount a large scope on your gen1 ? How does it hold up?

BC Tactical rail gives you an almost unimpeded sight picture while also allowing to you remove the top handguard without removing the rail first. I have a micro red dot on mine, and you get a solid, comfortable chin weld.

Perfectly fine for a red dot, don't think it would work well for a magnified optic.

Feels good, different ways to hold it and comfortable. Would like it a bit further but yeah it's as far as it goes because of the bump on the front of the lower. Even filled the rail a bit to put it further...

Anyone ever tried putting on a 45 degrees rail + red dot/ironsight and shot it with/without wearing a baseball cap/hat? I wonder if the brass will eject ok at 45 degrees with a baseball cap on.

Or I will be the guinea pig during my next range visit and let you guys know... I will probably do 1 test shot first and go slow ;)

45 degrees rail + a Vortex Viper 6moa works just fine (but I didn't wear a cap yesterday). Went through 2 boxes of American Eagle and not a single brass hit my face (or rain on me). All brass seems to ejected up-forward very slightly to the right hand side. In that case I can probably run 2Gun with this setup and tune my scope with a higher zoom for more distant targets. I might need a low profile riser for red dot still kinda hanging high on top after zero with a 15 yds target (originally zero with a 7 yrd target at home). I will try it again and next time with a cap to make sure the brass still ejects ok.

Going to venture into unknown territory and try to install a Troy Ambi mag release on a T97. Should work but will require some grinding, drilling and retreading the T97 push mag release to fit the AR release.

Keep u posted..
