The T97 Thread!

For future references is it possible to take a picture of this (may be with an arrow or circle highlight?) so we all benefit from knowing what to check? You've got my deepest thanks ;)

These are the two pins. When the trigger pack is in the rifle, they wont go anywhere, but if you take it out, even light handling can pop one end of the pin out of it's hole in the housing so it sits askew inside the pack. The rifle may still appear to function normally, so you might not notice it if you don't know to look.

Its happened a couple times were it released but didn't set the second round off. 1 pull of the trigger, next not even a click because the striker was resting on the next round.

Just thinking if it was the perfect distance where it didn't catch the trigger but could strip a round off the mag... maybe it's getting caught up or unthinkably under gassed.

I had that thought too, but I can't get the bolt on mine back far enough to pick up a dummy round without the hammer being reset long before, even with a too short round pushed up to the front of the mag. This is on my 15xx serial numbered rifle though. If yours is an earlier one, might chalk it up to another bug they had yet to work out.

But if you can do it with yours, maybe a quick and dirty fix is some kind of o-ring spacer on the hammer, to get the hammer pushed into the sear/disconnecter "sooner"

On another note I had a reply from north Sylva for a price on a barrel. (They have no other parts in stock)

They want $343 plus tax and shipping.

Haha what? Why do they have barrels of all things? I'm waiting on some AK recoil springs and firing pins to see if they drop in (or can be made to work with some wrangling)

Thanks so much for the pic!!! Awesome I will watch out for that.

Btw, how can one just change the barrel? I thought the whole barrel is part of the lower that you cannot take out?

Like an AK, the barrel is pressed into a steel trunnion that is pinned into the aluminum receiver. It would be a huge pain in the rear, but you could conceivably swap them out with the right tools/facilities.

It's pinned in a couple places too. They took my barrel off to thread it with no issue.

My 13xx and 14xx work perfect. His with the issue is a 15xx.

You'll note that when the trigger is released, you can physically push down the sear, and when the trigger is held down, you can physically push down the disconnecter. Either of these somehow happening could cause what you're describing. Maybe they're rubbing up against the safety selector just enough to keep them from springing into place?

My safety has a little bit of play back and forth and I can see how it might interfere with these if it were more out of spec, or maybe it's not being held in place by the tab properly. Thats something that could be fixed with a hand file if so.

Hmm his safety has a bit more movement than my others. I'll check some stuff when I'm home.

Help! Anyone ever successfully replaced the butt stock may be can give me a hand? I removed the 2 screws on the back of the butt stock but the whole rubber thingy still attached to the butt stock and won't move at all. I assume that it is probably glued but I don't wanna force it. Did I miss anything?

Mine was just like bonded a bit. No glue. Got a flat screw driver in between and lightly pried it apart.

Thanks so much, after wrestling with it for half more hour and managed to stab myself twice with a screwdriver I finally got it out and put in the magpul butt pad. I guess mine might be glued a bit tighter. Wow!!! this magpul butt pad I ordered from t97 is an awesome upgrade since the contact surface is longer than the factory one. I am getting a full size AR magpul butt pad ( and changeable) now and it feel just like an AR on the shoulder.

Yeah I really like it on my one. Debated on getting another but I doubt itl be as useful for the one I normally shoot prone.

I installed the mag release from HiCal : http://hical.ca/norinco-type-97-t97-left-side-magazine-release/ I like it (besides a bit of retro fitting into the frame). I wish the handle is just slightly longer like 2cm more so I can even reach out with my trigger thumb. Very fast mag release IFF your mag drops free. I wish my LAR15 drops free like the one in the vid above ;)

I used a T97 with the FTU and LHG that had one of those, it worked flawlessly. You need a screwdriver to remove the lower, but if you're good with that, it's a great addition to the rifle. Rock solid, it freely rotates so your single point sling doesn't twist up.

I just ordered mine yesterday so hopefully it will arrive before end of next week just before the long weekend range trip... The reason why I wanna replace the factory one is that after I installed the LHG I found the factory pin was very hard to put back in. I have never seen anything like that with any AR takedown pin.

Itl loosen up. And the LHG has a tensioning screw on the bottom. Make sure that's not turned in too much.
