The T97 Thread!

thanks guys, and your welcome

my suggestion though would be to get a pretty aggressive file, a fine tooth file will clog up quickly with the soft aluminum, a more aggressive file will also make the job go quicker

file a bit..test fit...file a bit...test again, until you get a mag that drops free, its worth the effort imo

Weather has be on and off today and decided it was a great day for a new gun :danfingbanana:

So I just picked up this very nice T97 Gen2 from SFRC and very pleased on the improvements made to the Gen2 version. It's not perfect but definitely better than the Gen 1.

The Good
-Ambi Mag catch
-Low profile rail
-fit & Finish
-M4 style feed ramps
-Ambi cocking handle
-Trigger is great after reset "chrisp, light with a perceived break point"
-No drill mark in barrel

The Bad
-Safety still sucks
-Mag well is still tight
-Cocking handle is polymer
-No perceived break point on trigger pull "first shot"
-No manual bolt catch

Sights
The folding sights are not as bad as everyone says, it's all steel and similar to most AR style sights. You can adjust for both elevation/windage and they feel solid with no movement when deployed. I do find the sights a bit tall and not a huge fan of the sight picture.

Cocking Handle and Rail

The cocking handle can be switch to ether side, by remove the rail and unscrewing the set screw. The cocking handle assembly is polymer and hopefully it will hold up :confused:The Rail is very well made will little to no machining marks. One very important note, I recommend Blue Loctite on the cocking handle and both rail screws.

Barrel/Chamber
The Barrel is still the same old 1/7 twist, parkerized, Chrome lined barrel and chamber. Thankfully there is no "oops" drill mark in the barrel and the T97 now has "M4 style" feed ramp finally :d

Mag Catch/Safety
Finally a mag catch that make sense, It's not perfect but much better than the old style. My only complaint is the ridge on the receiver can get in the way of the mag button. On a few practice mag changes, the ridge prevent my thumb from full depressing the mag catch. Oh BTW the Safety still blows!

Observation
I notice safety design feature, the barrel extension shields the shooter on the left side of the gun. If the gun did blow up, the shrapnel would be mostly towards the right. So in saying that, I would not recommend trying to shoot this left handed, even if you make a brass deflector.

Detailed Strip
Every part looks very well made and finished

Cleaning Kit

The cleaning kit is found in the grip and is pretty well thought out.

Extra Stuff
It all comes with a crap mag, oil bottle and paper work.

MY friend picked up a Gen2 recently and I was also impressed. I hadn't noticed the feed ramps, but what is apparent is everything looks machined better than my Gen1. The mag release button and safety catch is also enlarged, which is a minor but nice ergonomic improvement.

The iron sights are well made, the only problem being that you can't get the rear peep far enough back to use it comfortably, but that's fine, you get a Gen2 to put optics on.

The cleaning kit really is excellent, it's the same as the Gen1. The punches are for the roll pins in the bolt. A good thing to do is to punch out the small pin to remove the firing pin, and sand it down with 1000 grit paper to remove some of that black finish until its smooth. This helps prevent possible slamfires. One of the tools however, is a hex key, or at least, hex key-shaped. It wont fit in the screws holding in the rail. An easy addition is to find a hex key that fits, then snip it to fit in the cleaning kit.

Hex key? you mean the gas port scraper tool?

Is that what it's supposed to be? I'll have to try it! On my checklist everything was just listed as "tool x pcs" I was completely puzzled as there's no hex screws on the Gen1 and it doesn't fit any of the ports on the plug itself.

Edit: OK that's awesome, I was wondering what that port on the top of the gas block was for

Since they already have the parts, I don't understand why the gen2 mag release isn't available on it's own... What retailer should we ask this to?

The importer: North Sylva. They have their own forum.

Good luck!

PS - I'd buy one.

Asked them months ago. They told me they weren't interested.

Not surprising, even if you ask them directly to buy spare parts they actually stock, they probably won't even bother to answer you. They like having a monopoly on spare parts, but don't like dealing with customers, which is infuriating,to say the least.

Maybe if you brought the idea to a retailer, NS would listen to them.

Anyone has the t97.ca lower can tell me if it comes with bottom rail ready or I need to install an extra keymod rail? If I need to add my own rail then will any 3rd party keymod rail works? Is there a min length requirement?

Need to install a T97.ca proprietary rail.

As well... I need a gen 2 now...

Yeah, I just received a short answer simply stating it is not in their plans anytime soon. Kindly asked why not and gave what I think are valid points to do so... Still waiting...

As well the barrel extension shield is the same on the gen1. That being said it has out of battery protection, and the cases of kabooms ive seen from pistol powder hand loads, the gun takes it like a champ. Looks really safe regardless of side.
