Quick survey for those privileged few who received their orders:

1) Did your box have a foam or Styrofoam insert, or was it just zip ties through the cardboard?

2) In particular, if you only ordered the rifle itself with the standard 2 mags, what was the packaging?

I'm trying to figure out if the rifles arrived in Canada with packing materials in the boxes, or if it was the Chinese that zip tied the rifles in place. If anyone has foam packing, it would be nice to see the layout of the foam and what cutouts are present.

My suspicions:

1) TI is removing the foam to make room for "extras" like spares mags anyone ordered, a cheese grater forestock, etc. to lower their shipping costs to us.

2) That the rifles shipped from China with foam inserts, just like the picture floating around of the sample T81 with black foam packing.

3) That ALL the rifles shipped from China with the items TI was touting as a "pre order bonus" in each box - that is to say, they all shipped from China with THREE mags, an oil bottle and a sling.

4) That the importer removed the third mag from everyone's order to get the extra $29 and the sling for the same reasons. Removing the packing disguises this choice they made to maximize return on their investment (yes, I know, it was us that invested - not necessarily them, for most of the costs).

Again, these are suspicions - not based on fact - just curious if anyone got packing materials that might validate this theory. The importer can do whatever they like and I'm not condemning them for this if true, I just want to know how Poly ships the guns from the factory. All the youtube vids of Americans with "time capsules" of Polytech AK's, SKS, etc. from the early 1990's arrived in boxes with foam packing, 3 mags, and oil bottle and a sling. When I used to buy Polytech SKS's from Lever Arms for $89 back in the 1990's, they also had foam, an oil bottle, a sling and 3 charger clips in the box. I haven't seen a pre-1994 Canadian Polytech AK box in years, but I seem to remember they also had foam, 3 mags, a sling and the oil bottle included.

If TI did get packing, I would have paid the extra shipping to have my accessories shipped separately to get the packing materials and keep everything together for the future.

My box contained rifle + 4 mags. No foam, everything strapped to cardboard insert. Looking at this carboard insert, plastic wrapping, the zipties, and where they tie to, it doesn't look like there was ever any foam involved.

I'm not going to address the rest of your suspicions because they sound like they were 100% pulled out of thin air, just like the guys who claimed the folders weren't in Canada....

Youza.

I admit that freely. They are only based on my having observed other polytech products and how they were sold in the past, and the pictures of the shipping packing for the sample rifles that went to RCMP. Nothing more. Hence why I asked for factual feedback.

I could have not stated why I wanted to know, but someone would have asked - maybe even you - so better to just be honest up front.

Maybe another question should be whether anyone has ever received a polytech product before that was secured by zip-ties. I kinda doubt it.

Also, how do you account for extra mags beyond 2 also being zip-tied in place? I seem to recall pics showing that.

I’ve bought rifles(m305 for sure) with empty mag spots in the foam before from a couple different dealers on cgn. Wouldn’t be the first time.

My fixed stock had the rifle and the two included mags zip tied to the box, they did use nice reusable zip ties so kudos to them for that!
The manual/oil bottle/ front sight tool was loose in the box
When my folder arrives there will be 4 mags plus a sling . will see how its packed I would imagine the same way.

I ordered a bs-99 from TI and seen it only comes with 2 mags but research on this site showed that a few years back people were getting 3 or 4 mags with them
The only other norinco product I have is a m-305 and it was packed in Styrofoam when I got it. I find the quality of the T-81 to be much better then the m-305 though

Not one of the four Norinco AR's that I have bought over the years have come with any foam in the box, just a rifle in a sealed plastic bag, cant remember if they were zip tied to the box, I think so though.

Why does it matter anyway? Each rifle was advertised to come with 2 mags. Each rifle box may have included more then 2 mags from the factory but again the selling price was $999.00 with 2 magazines.

Zipties are way cheaper than foam. There is no reason to think foam is a default, just one of the many production specs that is agreed to with the client I suppose.

As for the 2 extra mags thing, I don't particularly try to account for it because, well, I don't really care to be honest. It doesn't change anything at this point.
I got what I initially paid for and then some extras, how TI made those extras happen is trivial.

Go re-read my post. It doesn't matter to me, I just want to know. I bought the gun according to the terms they offered and I'm OK with that, but I do admit I would prefer to have a foam insert if there ever was one.

I was up front in my post - this is not about business ethics and people'e views on that, it's about determining if they shipped from China with foam or zipties.

By the way, if they shipped with foam, changing the packaging could account for the very slow shipping progress.

My T97 came in a cardboard cut out. No Foam.

I got a shotgun from Norc that came lose in a box. Forend wood Broke during shipping. The wood was such trash it took me forever to fix. Thin, Cheap wood with a ton of hairline cracks.

My Short double barrel norc came in Styrofoam and plastic soak in oil. Stock split in 100 shots. Thank god CanAm took care of me and gave me a replacement.

Best person to ask would be they guy who posted the picture of a fixed stock rifle when they were supposedly at the customs warehouse. Both mine were zip tied and no foam

I bet they shipped with foam, just like the sample.

The better question is who got a bent rifle?! So far several people have.

What's also unacceptable is that another seller got their rifles from TI, sold them all and already shipped them out, at a DISCOUNTED price! wtf TI.

That's not right.

How do you know it was discounted?
