TYPE 81 folding stock more pictures (DAY 6 Update "a bent rifle")

Well, if nothing else it is truly interesting to watch a new generation of Canadian shooter become acquainted with Norinco firearms quality. So much for a cheap(er), reliable 7.62x39mm "bullet hose" if you happen to get one with "special" features such as a bent receiver, Hand-Dremelled bolt, etc. I hope for everyone's sake that TI ordered enough of an overage to cover all of the defective rifles. Not something I'd want to have to worry about on top of getting an out-of-spec unit in the first place. I feel bad for the fellow that received 2 bent rifles, one of each style. Not even a 50% success rate for that buyer! Ouch!!.

you working for north sylva is confirmed..

If you're close to Edmonton PM me and we can try to arrange a time for you to come out to my place to shoot my fixed stock rifle. Pretty sure you won't be on the fence after shooting it. Not the most accurate rifle, but it's reliable and is soft shooting.

like a run of the mill SKS = $200.00 :)

Gen 2? This rifle is more than 35 years old

Exactly, I don't know who in there right mind would think a gen 2 or next batch is going to be of better quality. They have been building them this way for a LONG time. They wont be suddenly retooling and changing anything with the fit and finish of the Type 81, if anything it will be discontinued.

I doubt the military or other countries that ordered these for their armed forces receive bent rifles.

I think in China someone would get executed over a bent rifle military contract. ;)

They probably do but the armourer would most likely just throw any bad rifles in a pile to use for parts later and just issue the soldier a new rifle.

Well most SKS are at least $250 :p but yes, for less money you could buy an SKS a chassis to put it in and a crate of ammo but then you've still just got an SKS, these are different and well whatever, you buy one if you want something different or you stick with your SKS if you're content with that. Talk yourself into or out of buying one, only you need to justify the cost to yourself, I wanted something new so I bought one. No different than when I had 6 AR's and 3 non restricted semi auto 223's, they all do the same thing yet I still wanted each one for different reasons.

A few pics of mine. Not sure why the pics are sideways!!! Sorry. It doesn't look that bad in the pics and maybe not as bad as the other one posted, but the instant I shouldered it, I noticed it right away! I'm pretty sensitive to that sort of thing and it drives me nuts!

I sent TI an email. I told them that my rifles should be inspected before shipping. If they can't be inspected then I want a refund. If there are not enough rifles to go around due to the replacements going out, I would also like a refund as am not willing to wait for another shipment.
I could care less about waiting for delivery but I do not want to receive a rifle that shoots around corners. And then have to ship it back. They can examine mine before zip tying into the box as that is pretty simple to do.

I sent them the same email basically. I just said I'm not paying the 20% return fee, so either check it first and confirm it's good to go, ship it to me and accept a return with no fee, or just cancel the order.

Kinda over this rifle at this point.

We should really get the serial numbers of the problem rifles so we might be able to determine the fault point in production and no one is resold those rifles.

Yours looks similar to the OP’s and mine. Can you disassemble and put a straightedge on it like how did?

Yeah I'm still waiting to see IF I get mine. Regardless how this turns out I am never dealing with TI after this.

I won’t be buying again from TI until they clean up there act. They never seem to be upfront. Most of the time when I call the company i get sent to the answering machine. That’s no way to run a business.

If you must cancel the order, because they can't find you a "straight one", you should ask for and receive a 20% restocking fee for your refund.

you working for north sylva is confirmed..

You are hilarious! FYI, I àm a medically-retired infantry officer (PPCLI) with 32 years of service to Canada. That's a long ways from being a shill for anybody. There are many on here who can confirm my identity. Seeing as how you accuse me of nefarious deeds, perhaps you will take the time to google "major Mark Campbell" for an idea of how I actually spend my time....

TI has agreed to replace my rifle. I’ve asked if they’re going to inspect the replacement before shipping it to me. I’m hopeful this will be resolved without any further problems. Thanks TI
