Stop banging the bottom your AR mags when you insert them.

The real problem affecting function here are our ridiculous gun laws.

As some of you have already mentioned, when mags get pinned to 5 it is often done in a manner which barely allows the 5th round to squeeze in. The magazine follower is designed to give against the spring to allow the top cartridge to be pushed down by the bolt carrier when the mag is inserted into the mag well so it can lock in properly.

A tightly pinned mag will cause problems.

I have never had a problem tapping on a 30 round mag (CAF) because that mag is working as designed, the civie modified one, only if it was pinned properly.

Depends on the gun, depends on the mag. One LAR mag inserts into my AR peacefully, that same mag has to be bumped into my MR1...... Both situations of coarse on a closed bolt.

make sure its lubed up, insert, slap, tug

works both for ar15 and doggystyle

they both like it, if you aren't doing it that way, in both instances, then you are not doing it right

When I took a course in AZ using normal cap 30 rounders, the instructor said SOP for US Forces was to download their mags to 28, for the main reason that fully loaded mags may not seat fully on a closed bolt. They also teach the push, tug method of checking. Not saying it’s the only way but that’s what they taught. I, personally, seat, lightly bang (tap?) and tug.

Bud you're doing it right, us married guys know how to roll

You mean we know how to bang and tug, right? LOL!!

Perhaps this is why my eyesight is lacking ... any more banging and tugging on my side of things and they are going to need to come up with a new category for me in IDPA not to mention Tac Rifle. Magoo classification.

For the record I practice the teachings of Still alive and push , pull and finally push again following by a sneak peek for shiny brass in battery with a discreet little tug on the charging handle ... now it’s time for the only banging I hope to ever need to do to my AR and that is a couple of swift right handed knocks on the forward assist to tuck that bcg back up against round #1. When I do finally get to shoot a Tac Rifle Match I don’t plan to handicap myself with unnecessary ftf , mag drops or equipment issues. I’ll be busy enough adding up my misses , procedurals and friendly hits due to my damned eyesight !

Yes it does. Just give it a little tap.

With fully loaded 30rd mags at work I never have much luck seating on a closed bolt without an unholy beating. With my crew in the sand box I convinced everyone to download to 28rds and that made the difference. Wasn't sweating the loss of ammo when carrying 13 mags.
